I know it came off as rather callous, and I guess it was. I just get tired of the "died doing what they love" phrase when a thrill seeker ends up killing themselves.

I didn't see it so much as callus, as Monday morning snark.

What better way to go though? I hope my time comes while I'm basking in the sun while tending my garden. Though not a thrill seeking activity, it's doing what I love.

How would you prefer to go?

I think that after a certain age - say 60 - every pilot that wants to perform aerial aerobatics/air races has to have a thorough examination (at their own expense) before every show/weekend.

You want to perform aerial acrobatics/races in front of a crowd and you are old - great. Just make sure you can prove that you are absolutely fit before each one.

Well, let's say that you are basking in the sun tending your garden when suddenly you are set upon by a cloud of killer bees. At some point your death stops being about what you love and more about the bees.

I don't think the pilot lasted very long, if at all. The bees thing might take a few minutes.

Stunt flying is for young pilots.
I don't see where age comes into it.

Died doing something he loved doing. Sounds like a good way to go.

You don't see where age comes into it? Do you know anyone 77 years old?? Their reflexes have gone the way of the dodo bird, their physical strength is worth crap, their judgement may or may not be impaired.

Yes, you're right. He did die doing something he loved. That's a good thing. What I'm grateful for is that he didn't take a grandstand with him.
