General: We Should Have Tried in Benghazi

This is a fundamental point that has been strangely ignored. It obviously bothered this General. At the start of the attack no one could know how long it would last, so it was impossible to claim there was not enough time to respond.

WASHINGTON — U.S. military personnel knew early on that the Benghazi attack was a "hostile action" and not a protest gone awry, according to a retired general who served at U.S. Africa Command's headquarters in Germany during the attack.
While the exact nature of the attack was not clear from the start, "what we did know early on was that this was a hostile action," retired Air Force brigadier general Robert Lovell said in his prepared statement Thursday morning to members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. "This was no demonstration gone terribly awry."
Lovell's testimony contradicts the story that the Obama administration gave in the early days following the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks on the U.S. Consulate that left four Americans dead, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. . . .

I'm no Obama hater. I do wish he'd at least tried. It bothers me. I coulda been the guy painting that target and hoping my sacrifice makes a difference for the others.

Damn right we should have tried; even if we KNEW there wasn't enough time to react.

They died because they were dealing with shady al Qaeda linked militants trying to smuggle kadaffis weapons into Syria. They did not die fighting for America, they died helping arm al Qaeda fighters in Syria.

There was a response. They did try.

I believe that is the main reason people can't seem to let go of this problem - although I'm certain the administration wishes they would. When an Ambassador is basically told "you're on your own," it makes an average person wonder how valuable their own life might be to the government, and that hits too close to home for many people!

    Good evening, Jack.

    That's not what happened.

They could have at least tried. The fact they didn't is daunting. It should haunt hilda for it explains exactly what kind of leadership she'd exert - the kind that maintains her public profile over all else.

Did someone utter the words to him - no - does that mean it didn't happen? Its exactly WHAT DID happen.

No, it's not. There was no "stand down" order.
