Militia around Bundy Ranch set up checkpoints, demand papers, control taffic flow

Local reporters have a little bit of backup for their "allegations"

So, that article says nothing of roadblocks or messing with local residents in any way.

The most "incendiary" comment relates to reporters and "pistol packing militia" and "lighter fluid", but really says nothing about what those pistols were doing.

Nevada is an "open carry" state.

A guy with a pistol firmly in a holster is, by any definition, "pistol packing".

Consider how reporters/the media will sensationalize any old thing and you'll understand my skepticism.

Like the "pouring lighter fluid around the news vehicle" comment.

Maybe.

Now prove it.

Was it really lighter fluid?

Or did one of the militia men dump the last swallow of warm Gatorade out of a bottle on the side of the road and the reporter somehow "imagined" it was lighter fluid?

Again, more allegations, absolutely no proof of anything.

When I say I want some evidence what I mean is I want images or video of these alleged checkpoints.

I want to see militia members surrounding vehicles, guns drawn, people being "held at gunpoint", and proof of residency being demanded.

I want to see a guy standing there with a Zippo can in his hand circling a vehicle with something that at least appears to be lighter fluid.

Again, we are being bombarded with images daily of mortars dropping in Syria, RPGs being launched in Afghanistan, roadside bombs in Iraq, armed clashes in Ukraine.

Real violence from some of the most dangerous places in the world.

And reporters in Nevada, where there have been exactly zero violent incidents, can't climb a berm with a telephoto lens and take a single picture of completely peaceful (perhaps threatening, maybe even menacing, but so far completely peaceful) militia members manning a checkpoint?

It all reeks of an alarmist ratings grab.

Another little item I found while Googling that relates to comments about how Bundy should be paying the state of Nevada instead of the BLM for grazing rights. Don't know if that would work to well with Mr Bundy. Nevada charges between $12 and $14 per AUM (animal unit per month), the BLM charges $1.35 AUM and the average price east of the Rockies approaches $16 AUM

I could give a good God damn what happens to Cliven Bundy.

Frankly, I think the man should have either been fined, arrested, or maybe even sent to jail, years ago.

To me the man is no more and no less than a (very ugly) poster-boy for abusive government overreach and media complicity in an ongoing effort to continuously erode American rights/liberties.

I have no interest in what happens to him.

My only interest is related to what has sprung up because of him.

How do I know this? Because I speak with the Bundy's personally every few days and also receive their updates.
Thank you for the conversation in PM, but I can't quote your PMs in the public forums, so that conversation of little public use.

I'm sure others would be interested to learn what the name of your militia unit is, under what authority you operate, and why your militia unit chooses to commit war-crimes by using children in tactical engagements.

I'm jumping in on this thread late, and perhaps someone has already pointed this out, but the claims of militia creating checkpoints, demanding papers etc is patently FALSE. How do I know this? Because I speak with the Bundy's personally every few days and also receive their updates.
I am a member of one of the militias that was represented at the ranch.

Now I ask you this: If the government came to your neighborhood and explained that the land your house sits on is no longer yours (or perhaps was never) and the court system failed to help you AND then a SWAT team showed up to evict you...what would you do? This is not a far-fetched scenario, my friends. It is happening all over the country.

Anyone who still believes the government is here to help and protect them REALLY needs to wake up.

Nobody came to the Bundy's house and told them that their land isnt theirs.

The Bundy's never owned the BLM public land that their cattle are grazing on. Not ever. The Bundy ranch was bought in 1948 when Cliven was 2 years old.

No one is evicting the Bundy's where do you get these lies? Ooops you just said that you get them from the Bundy's personally.

raphaelschild has chosen to leave this forum, she tells me in PM.

She accused me of being a Federal sympathizer since I'm in the SD National Guard and disagree with her personal opinion, which only demonstrates the profound ignorance apparent among these militia groups. This same ignorance explains why militia are at the Bundy ranch in the first place, since only a lack of knowledge of the law or who owns the land could motivate someone to take up arms against the state in such a misguided effort to avoid valid fees.

The sad fact is these militia groups have opened a wide gate for anti-gun to step in with sweeping gun control after the election cycle.

Wow after one post? She wasnt much of a debater was she?

And I agree that the militia movement is just what the anti gun nuts want to showcase. A little extremism goes a long ways with these people, its a little ironic lol.

I respect he right to disagree with me on any issue, but she came to a debate forum, what did she expect but critical examination of her every statement? Is that not the very purpose of this website?

It also shows the deep level of paranoia that afflicts "us vs them- all or nothing" types regardless of their socio political orientation.

Actually, it does have a use. It is grazing land for people who pay to use land maintained by the public. As Bundy has not paid his usage fee in years, he has no right to graze on those lands.

While I agree that he should pay the fees he owes, I saw no mention of his use precluding any other use by anyone. Do you have evidence of such?

Well apparently a whole lot of people support Bundy's right to have his business supported by the government.

How is it being supported by the govt?

You know the really sad thing?

That guy is a fifty-something civilian.

I could EASILY find 100 images of equally fat thirty-something cops and federal agents on the Internet with absolutely NO difficulty.

When America's "finest" are qualitatively little better than an overweight plumber playing weekend warrior you've got a problem.

And I bet you ol' hoss there probably spends more time and ammo training in a weekend than most BLM agents do all year...
