(CNN) -- U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, R-New York, was taken into federal custody on charges relating to a failed restaurant business and allegations that he made false statements, law enforcement officials said Monday.

His lawyer and U.S. officials briefed on the matter said previously that prosecutors were preparing charges, capping a two-year FBI investigation that ranged from his business dealings to his first campaign for Congress in 2010.

The former FBI agent and two-term Republican lawmaker from New York made headlines when he was shown on camera threatening to throw a reporter over a Capitol Hill balcony after an interview following the State of the Union address in January.

An ex FBI Agent no less...

Life in prison for him will be "Grimm" indeed.

He's a Republican in a Democratic district. The Dems will pick up this seat in November, but Republicans will still have a solid hold on the House.
Really?? A scumbag of either party threatening to throw a man over the balcony for asking a question, and in custody on even more criminal charges, and your brain immediately goes to effect it will have on the balance of power in the House, which is essentially inconsequential? Wow, the partisanship runs deep in you.

Nope, just being realistic. As for partisanship, I was bashing Bush when bashing Bush wasn't cool, and took a hell of a lot of heat in this forum for doing so. I've earned my nonpartisanship badge.

Whatever you have to tell yourself.

Despite what he say's in his lean I wouldn't call him republican. He's too liberal.

And who says Republicans are Conservative? They like big government too, as long as it helps their corporate buddies.

"Making false statements"? I guess some people have never heard of the FIRST AMENDMENT

In related news, the militias have left Nevada, and are now on their way to New York to protect Grimm's First Amendment rights.
