A North Carolina woman died behind the wheel just moments after posting a Facebook message and hitting a truck head-on.

I could say a lot of things but I'll just say that at least the lady died happy and no one else died in this collision.

Hey, she died happy! Who could ask for more than that?

Maybe having contributed to natural selection and the improvement of the human genome made her even happier.

Yeah but the poor bastard in the truck has got a stain on his record and has to deal with the fallout.

I would venture to guess the mental anguish of killing another human in an accident will be significant. Even if it is not your fault. That's a hell of a thing to see and be a part of...

Yeah she gets a Darwin...

But she could have KILLED many more.

Being That I am a former Truck driver I am going to tell you ALL something right now!!

IF you knew how many people on the INTERSTATES where texting and driving at 70+ miles an hour i doubt you would use those roads again.

ask yourself this HAVE YOU EVER DONE IT? EVER USED your phone for anything while driving?

I assure you it is an epidemic and is worse then drinking and driving ever was!!!!

Glad she did not kill anyone else with her reckless behavior. It's sad for the family, but I can't muster up much sympathy for her. If you drive like an idiot, be prepared to die like one.

This need to always be technologically on is a frightening thing. Here's a woman who died to update her status, because she just could not wait to let everyone know how "happy" she was. It's some kind of sickness.

Wow, now that is a very disturbing story. My heart goes out to the man in the truck that she hit. His life will never be the same.

True dat. I see it every day as well, in fact, me and my wife will now only proceed through an intersection when the light turns green ONLY when we look both ways to make sure people are either stopped or slowing down. My biggest fear these days is people running a red light or a stop sign because they have their collective head up their ass.

Tim-

Tim-

It happened yesterday morning. Not only was there a stop sign, but a cross walk complete with pedestrian in the middle of the street. I know, as I was the pedestrian. I watched the idiot approach at a high speed, which people often do, but instead of slamming on the brakes at the last minute as so many drivers are wont to do, he sailed right past me.

Had I been able to follow him, I'd gladly have let the air out of his tires.

Yeah she gets a Darwin...

So. You've never done anything in your car to take your attention off the road? Reached down to pick up your spilled water bottle? Cellphone? Reached in the back seat for something while driving? Took both hands off the wheel to do . . . whatever? Burned yourself with a cigarette and tried desperately to put out the embers on fire in your lap?

It's wrong to text and drive. That goes without saying. But she doesn't get a Darwin unless many of the rest of us do as well. ;)

The only way you win a Darwin is to kill yourself in the process. So we don't qualify just yet. Keep up the good work! :)

That's sad. She only got 10 likes!

You're right about that. I ride a motorcycle and sit just a little above the average auto window and I see people texting almost every intersection I stop at. It makes me ride differently than I used to.

I honestly think that phones should have a sensor that recognizes that it is moving at a high rate of speed and locks itself so it can't be used until it's stopped.

As long as they are doing it at the intersection.... stopped.... its not a huge problem.

Intersections are the safe points for texting in the vehicle while operating... you aren't moving anywhere.. If you can't text and keep pressure applied to the brake.... Your more pathetic than hundreds of drunk drivers that get arrested every year while at an intersection passed out with their foot on the brake and vehicle in gear.

I am very sorry for the loved ones of this lady but if you risk your life like this you have no one to blame but yourself.

They think that FedEx truck driver was texting when he killed himself and 9 other people. I read that cell phones are now responsible for about 1/4 of traffic deaths.

I should have clarified, I see them texting as they drive just about as much.

Pretty sad story, she wouldn't have known much about that. Those left behind will though. The family, friends, the truck driver and the emergency services staff left to pick up the pieces.

They shouldn't be texting whilst they are stopped at intersections or traffic lights either Caine. If you're looking at the phone screen you aren't paying attention to what's happening around you which you need to do so that you know when it is safe to move on.

It's stupid to be texting and taking selfies whilst you are driving from A to B. Just switch the phone off. It might save your life or someone elses.

The takeaway from this story: Drive a Truck, protect yourself against careless people.

If you are at an intersection.... you don't have the ABILITY to DO ANYTHING about what is going on around you, so it matters not what is going on around visually. Emergency vehicles have sirens which you can hear. If you are a little slow getting to the gas on a green light because you were texting... its not a big deal.

This is why texting laws only apply to vehicles that are in motion and not just any vehicle on the roadway at any time.

Except that some drivers don't quit when the light turns green and they're on their way again, and except that other drivers run red lights, making it a good idea to know what is coming as the light turns.

definition of stupidity: operating a vehicle and NOT watching where you are going. When I see this which is now every single day I wonder what is so important about one phone call or text that one risks paralysis, dismemberment, blindness, burns and death leaving family members to weep and live without that person. It is a disgrace that someone is so illiterate about their own life and the lives of others.
