U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers said it’s unlikely the Affordable Care Act will be repealed.
“We need to look at reforming the exchanges,” the Eastern Washington Republican said Thursday.
The five-term congresswoman and chair of the House Republican Conference kicked off her re-election campaign this week with visits to Walla Walla, Colville and Spokane. She faces Democratic challenger Joe Pakootas.

McMorris Rodgers has been part of the Republican leadership in the House that has voted multiple times to repeal parts or all of President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. GOP members have said the law is unworkable, will increase costs for some and force others into inadequate coverage or plans they don’t want.
McMorris Rodgers continued those criticisms Thursday, but said the framework established by the law likely will persist and reforms should take place within its structure.

McMorris Rodgers says ACA likely to stay - Spokesman.com - April 25, 2014
Hope this moron loses her seat.

I don't care if a Demokrat takes it, but the Tea Part should have her ass in their crosshairs, and any other idiot with an R by their name acting like an idiot Demokrat.

And in the leadership of the party... (projectile puke icon)... Boehner need be challenged, this moron need be challenged, and any other gutless Rino.

The OP has decided that a 5 term congresswoman, who regularly gets positive ratings from conservative groups, is a RINO because she's being far more realistic than most GOP members on this....particular... issue...

72% lifetime from FreedomWorks. 73% lifetime from Club for Growth.

She gets an F- minus from me.

Music to my ears.

She's saying exactly what a lot of the people who feared the bill in the first place said. Remember?

It is heavily unlikely it will be repealed. Reforms are much more likely for conservatives critical of the legislation.

Remember all of the liberals somehow thinking that NCLB would be removed? They were idiots in the mid-2000s, they remain idiots now. Reform is the option you have once it takes hold.

What was done can be undone. It takes will. Balls. Leadership of another type than what this moron offers.

She and others like her should be targeted for removal.

If a country is going to commit suicide, let the idiots do it... but offer a clear warning and alternative.

At some point our bankrupted Parasite Nation will need be cleaned up by adults, and we can point to the Socialists and say... we told you, now make way for some sanity.

I wish folks could live in Europe for a few years to experience what they're in for. It's not pretty, but hey... class warfare and giving away goodies is attractive to parasites. They think they are entitled to other people's labor. It's a demented mentality, disgusting, but obviously popular for a large section of an ignorant or parasitic electorate.

So the woman votes to repeal the law on dozens of occasions, levies sharp critiques against it in the same venue, yet is a liberal because she recognizes the likelihood of repeal is slim to none? Just a bizarre interpretation and lack of political savvy.

Considering the plethora manufactured outrages, asinine opinions and gross prevarications of facts coming from the GOP, Cathy McMorris Rodgers's remark is almost like a breath of fresh air.

This is unfortunate yet has become a political reality. Once the federal gov't acquires (creates?) a new power, program, agency or department it is most likely to grow, or even to morph into something else, rather than to be done away with. Simply because something exists the federal gov't will seek a way to control it.

She's right. Once you put millions of people on an entitlement, it's impossible to get them off.

The GOP would be better served coming up with a plan that actually helps all Americans, not just the poor. That of course is assuming the government can even do anything to reduce healthcare costs, which I doubt.

The gov't can reduce the costs of nearly anything but not by using income redistribution. Limiting nonsense like 1-800-BAD-DRUG (tort reform), removing artificial barriers to allow an increase in the number of medical care providers, requiring the cost of service to be posted and allowing medical care insurance to act like insurance (covering only the rare, unexpected and expensive events) instead of a silly scheme to try to limit "out of pocket" costs to near zero for those getting subsidies.

Unlike nearly any other "private" good/service it is nearly impossible to shop for medical care; trying to compare the cost of one procedure (or treatment plan) between multiple providers is all but impossible. Imagine if worn car tire replacement was mandated to be included in your auto policy but the actual retail tire price was never known (or even cared about) since your "out of pocket cost" was limited to $5/tire - what would then likely happen to retail tire prices and auto insurance premiums?

That's what's so scary about the way our government is set up.

Limiting nonsense like 1-800-BAD-DRUG (tort reform),

Eliminating ambulance chasers like James Sokolove would go a long way towards improving our society.

I've found it to be nearly impossible even when it's been decided upon that the service is actually needed. And here in NH we have to deal with whatever hospital or surgical center that our doctors are affiliated with if we want to use that doctor or keep that doctor at the very least in the loop. Even if I can find out that the cost of a procedure is less when done at another hospital, if I want my PCP to manage the aftercare, I have to do it through her affiliations. But when my insurance company is paying, all I ever care about is "What's my share in this" anyway. If it's the same regardless of where it's done, I never give it a second thought.

I think just the fact that you would be in here defending her is proof enough that she should go.

I don't care if she was a 30-term star... she's caving and in the leadership. She need be rooted out, just as that abortion ObamaKare need be rooted out. It cannot be done with morons like her in a position of leadership.

You see... the USSR died, DDR died, entire nations and their system of opporession died... but the oppression called ObamaKare can't die? ROTFLMFAO... Rrrrrrrrrright.

She should continue to fight... she has openly capitulated.

It's time for the cow to go to pasture.

Smart lady.

Really? And the same could be said for all the government programs that have harmed blacks in America. Looking back it doesn't look too smart... does it... and this poison isn't smart.

We need to slash away at all the poison and LIMIT government... this moron needs to go.

She's capitulated publicly... I hope her constituents fire her ass. Boehner can pack his crap and go on vacation with her.

The country would not be bettered served... and that is what matters. ObamaKare is unpopular, is a failure and should be repealed. You can't take a million of entitlements... I say you sure can.

She's SORT of right. Its here to stay...until it is fully implemented. Once it is shown to be the dismal failure that it is, the next push will be for Universal health care as the 'fix'. Thats next.

If the GOP was smart they wouldnt have been fighting AGAINST the ACA...they would have been fighting to force full implementation of the ACA instead of letting them continue to put off the devastating impact of whats coming til AFTER the election.

Omg a politician said the truth instead of offering rhetoric and platitudes.

Burn her at the stakes!!

...to someone who will tell you what you want to hear instead of obvious truths?

It's been more than four years. It's time to face reality.

This is what the establishment always does with failed liberal policy. Don't get rid of it just continue to polish the turd. Then libs call it repub policy and run on change.....And the sheep go baaaaa!

You know I have been adamantly opposed to the ACA since it was first passed with the Democratic leaders using bribes, threats, arm twisting and the whip, not on Republicans, but their own members. But the congresswoman is probably right. The ACA is here to stay, even if by an act of god, it would take that now to get it repealed. The frame work would have to stay in place, most of what is in the ACA would also have to remain in any bill or law that took its place. There is no going back to pre-ACA healthcare.

But I do not expect the Republicans to jump on board with the congresswoman. Keeping this flawed law the way it is could possibly gain the GOP the senate this November. Keeping the ACA the way it is, getting more people mad at it when all the mandates that have been delayed kicked in, when premiums go up, the Republicans may hope to ride this train to the presidency in 2016. For the last 4 years it has been Republicans and Independents opposing this law and only the Democrats for it. As long as a majority of independents continue to be against the law, there is political opportunity in keeping the law exactly as it is with no fixing, no improvement in hopes of wooing more independents to vote for GOP candidates.

Is this playing politics with the ACA, sure it is. But the ACA was all political to begin with. It was one party forcing its political agenda upon the American people when that party knew darn well the majority of Americans were against it. So why should politics stop now? The fact is this is a Democratic Party initiative, their policy, their idea, they passed it and signed it into law. I think the Republicans are satisfied at the moment to let it be just that, a Democratic law that the majority of Americans oppose. They view it as an opportunity to make hay. The Democrats now own healthcare, lock, stock and barrel. They will receive the kudos when healthcare is going good, they will receive the blame and the disgust when healthcare goes bad. From now on if a doctor even frowns at a patient, it will be the Democrats and the ACA’s fault. So are we really any better off today than 4 years ago? I suppose that is up to each individual and their political affiliation to decide.

...to someone who will tell you what you want to hear instead of obvious truths?

It's been more than four years. It's time to face reality.

Yes, I am afraid the reality is the ACA is here to stay even after 4 years of the majority of Americans opposing it and still oppose it today. No wonder the vast majority of Americans do not trust their government anymore. They know their government is going to do that government wants to do, not what the people want. I suppose one could call this business as usual. I think the ACA will be like the abortion issue, it will never go away. Today inside almost any poll that breaks down the party affiliation of those for and against, one finds the averages show 80% of Democrats for the Law, 90% of Republicans against the law and independents breakdown 35% for 60% against. Give or take a few percentage points on the above depending on the poll and when it was taken, but those are the averages and have pretty much remained about the same for 4 years.

Why even try to repeal the law when anyone looking at Washington D.C. knows President Obama would veto any bill that would repeal it if one ever emerged from congress. That is a complete waste of time and energy. What I do not understand is if the Democratic Party was the peoples party, why won’t or why wouldn’t they listen to the people? Apparently what the people think, want or do not want means nothing to them. But in Washington D.C. that is the norm today. It is all about political agendas and political parties and the people get lost and forgotten in the battles there. Hail the elites!
