Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations [W:77]

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

You are still second overall and another reason for the reduced growth is the income inequality in the U.S. which is by far the worst of large Western nations.

Income inequality IS the issue, eh?

Second overall. I'll brag on that friend..

Consider this:
Canada is the second largest land mass in the world.
It has the largest Arctic Coastline in the world.
Weather conditions like Russia
Ten percent of the US population.
Canada is one of the most sparsely populated nations on earth, with more than double the energy needs of the US.
Canada is an agriculture/resource economy.
Canada, by national mandate, has advanced universal health care AND income redistribution since the 1930's...

And we're second in the world......it no longer matters that we're ahead of the 'greatest nation on earth" your only solace is that we're not first.

OK....so while many Americans go looking for a second job, we Cheese heads will simply light up a joint, and go to a hockey game...

And, not to rub it in, but little Canada is the world champion hockey team with Men's and Women's Olympic gold medals in the last three Olympics.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

Canada has now overtaken the U.S. to become the nation with the wealthiest middle class according to this Globe article, Canada matched the U.S. in median income in 2010 and we have now surpassed the U.S. This is part due to an almost 20% growth income since 2000 while U.S. only had 0.3%, many Western European countries also saw better growth.

According to the NYT it is: “Because the total bounty produced by the American economy has not been growing substantially faster here in recent decades than in Canada or Western Europe, most American workers are left receiving meagre raises,” the New York Times report says. “Finally, governments in Canada and Western Europe take more aggressive steps to raise the take-home pay of low- and middle-income households by redistributing income.”

I have to say I am not surprised that the American economy stagnated income wise. Sure some individual states have seen growth but overall the U.S. is in the same place it was in 2000. You can't blame one party or president either since both the Republicans and Democrats have had power during that time.

I heard Harper waxing eloquently about this, taking credit of course.

The truth is, this is the result of the "True Grit" era of Canada, when the Liberals emerged ahead of Deifenbaker and the beginning of Canada's "golden era"....

This is a result of the Liberal's modification of Tommy Douglas' ideas, leading through the Trudeau "just society" era, refined as it should be by conservative fiscal ideas.

But just as Mulroney's reformations, the end of the baby bonus etc., needed to be brought to an end, so does the Harper administration have to go now.

snip..

It should be obvious that Obama and the left wing of the Democratic Party are not struggling to defend the middle class. Most of the time they are struggling to disenfranchise it by ignoring the basic rights of human liberty and of property that are guaranteed under our Constitution.

The 18% real rate of unemployment during Obama's first two years in office has not done much for the middle class. At the same time, there has been an enormous transfer of wealth from the middle class to the underclass. ObamaCare, financial services reform, mortgage reform, education reform, tax reform: in all of these areas, the administration's efforts have been to create and expand services for the poor at the expense of the middle class.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

So, American, you say we should be more like canada?

The advantage of living in Canada at the moment is that the politicians haven't turned women against men, race against race, poor against rich, etc. That sort of BS makes for a unhealthy and tiresome environment in which to live.

But, having said that, both countries have great neighbors.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

I don't know, not sure it's a one solution fits all. I think we should stick to the fundamental duties of the Constitution without all the frills.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

If you want to have a wealthier middle class, you need to solve the unemployment problem. To solve the unemployment problem you need to create an environment in which business is swimming downstream instead of upstream.

Yea but the Canucks still suck worse than my Hoover.

oh look, another coservobot bringing up race.
This is what socialism does.

It makes you one big, monochromatic, blob of mediocrity. I mean, who wants to be as nondescript and irrelevant as Canada?

And when you bottom-feed and race-bait like Obama's ilk does, you create a non-performing, unmotivated, equally poor society of time wasters.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

If Obama was as smart as GWB and had half of GWBs love for the USA and if Obama coudl create an economy as robust as GWB did after the biggest terror attack in US history .. Obama would be way ahead of the disaster that we have now.. and its a disaster.

So all Obama needs to do is create a new housing bubble to make the US econoy seem strong through the people taking on mortgage debt they can not afford, on homes that are not worth what they paid

Which means the next president will face an even bigger economic crisis then what Obama did. Great idea.

Property bubbles do not produce a healthy economy, and can take years if not decades to work through. Look at Japan and Ireland for the most extreme modern examples of economies that have had large property bubbles, and both are still working to recover from them. Japan for more then 10 years, generally because they did not want to see the severe downturn that should have occurrred. Ireland is in trouble because it decided to pay the bank debts of foreign banks instead of letting them fail

You forgot 9/11, the bursting of the dot.com bubble, and the global economic implosion outside the U.S.

That, and the Democratic racially-charged threats that led to mortgage crisis.

You do know it was Clinton and Freddy that created the housing bubble..

is your point that people now are to poor to pay a mortgage?.. the issue was people bought houses they couldnt afford..

What the hell are you talking about? I am Canadian.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

Or know enough to elect genuine Conservatives.

We elected the equivalent of Democrats for the most part, we also had a Liberal government in there as well.

Highest middle class income on the planet is a "blob of mediocrity" :lamo:

If they're mediocre, what are we?

Like canada did!

Like the U.S. has done in the past. It isn't rocket science.

Well, about 40 percent of us are pretty exceptional. The other 60 percent are watching American Idol and staring at their smart phones.

Yea but the Canucks still suck worse than my Hoover.

Thank you for that insight; it is always refreshing to find a quote notification with that level of contribution of the furtherance of the topic. I will, of course, be paying particularly close attention to future posts of such wisdom.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

I am not surprised at all. We have collectively been fools, with fools for politicians, and a general populace who has become lazy and complacent.

IIRC, US productivity per worker has soared over the past decade, so you opinion seems very unlikely to be true.

Re: Canada's Middle Class Richest In Study of Big Nations

do you know how to read a chart and what year Pelosi and Reid took over?... its like you dont even know how to read a chart or what variables are involved...

Why don't you educate me, tough guy. Teach me something that isn't apparent from the chart I posted and you quoted (post #36). Show me what glaring omission I've made. Prove to me that what the chart shows is inaccurate - that wages have remained flat for nearly a decade for middle-class Americans and that their earnings have decreased since 2009.

Prove me wrong.
