'Duck Dynasty' family cancels stage show at JQH Arena

You really think Duck Dynasty is the most popular show in America?

One of their shows pulled in 11.6 million viewers, making it the most watched cable TV show in history, outside of news channels.

Im thinking a successful 40 year industry and a large segment of Americas populations connection with family has a little bit to do with it. But...

H8rs gonna...well...you know...

Libbos hate anyone that don't pray at the Church of Liberalism.

Truth be told...I know a lot of liberals that like the show. Not all liberals are 'libbos'.

Wrong, it made it the most watched "non-fiction" cable TV show

The Walking Dead's record is over 16 million, in fact every single episode of the latest Walking Dead season was over Duck Dynasty's one time high

Not to mention those are all cable numbers which are small compared to broadcast numbers.

No doubt duck dynasty was a hit, but calling it the most popular show in America(especially now with its declining ratings) is dubious at best.

How about instead of anyone patting themselves on the back on how they're less racist than they used to be, how about we strive as a nation to make racism, which is still commonplace in the lives of many people in this country, unthinkable?

Many does not mean most, and though you would like us all to believe that whites hate blacks, it's people like Jackson and Sharpton who hate blacks more, and are the race hustlers who "keep racism alive". They don't want it to go away more than anyone else in the universe.

Meh, they probably grew the beards to appeal to their fan base. Look like a bunch of big fakers to me. "Let's see how much money we can make by bringing ourselves down to the level of the common person, because we haven't been common since 1972."

So commonplace folks in the South have beards down to their knees, is that it? Another swipe at the South?

I live in the South. I was born here, and raised here. I'm not taking a swipe at anything. Sheesh.

If I were taking a swipe at the South, you'd know it.

Nice, me too. But I didn't make an association or imply fakers. Are they guys a bunch of carpetbaggers that moved down here?

What seems to contradict the whole "racist" label put on the family, is the fact that Willie and his wife's adopted son Will, is bi-racial (black & white) and their adopted daughter is from Taiwan. Will was adopted many years before the reality series was even a concept.

He talks about it here:

I don't know. I assume they are from here. All I know is that everything I've read about them just screams that they are only "bearded up" and doing the whole flannel shirt thing because it's good for their demographic. Look at their pictures before they got this TV show. They certainly don't look anything like they do now. They are part of the marketing machine that is A&E. Look what Food Network did to Paula Deen. She was a normal gramma before the FN Marketing Machine got ahold of her. Now she's just a caricature of her former self. She's nothing like what she was. That is why I call them all a bunch of fakers - because they sold out who they really were, just to make a buck on TV.

You know they were famous before this show. Those photos look pretty old. I mean guys in the top photo had no gray hair.

They weren't famous - they were wealthy. Big difference, to me. As far as the photos, I don't know. You don't just go from fresh-scrubbed yuppie to grizzled-bearded mountain men without a really, really good reason (and that reason probably has a lot of zeroes behind it). I can even see maybe one of them making that change. But all of them? Nah. Not buyin' it. They had a reason for making such a big change in their appearance.

I know plenty of hunters that don't look like that. Maybe it was A&E's idea. Speaking of fakers, how about A&E with their faux outrage over their cashcow.

That's what I have been saying all along. The DD guys are sellouts because they let A&E tell them what to do, how to look, how to dress, etc. They were already wealthy - very wealthy - before the show started, so they really had no need to sell out to make money. They already had it. It's greed, pure and simple.

A&E are just as bad, because I truly believe the whole dust-up interview with GQ magazine was planned. A&E was in on it, GQ was in on it and the Duck Dynasty people were in on it. Otherwise A&E would have KEPT them off the air. It was all a ratings gig for A&E, and GQ did it to sell more magazines. And guess what? It worked. The 3 of them are laughing all the way to the bank.

There actually IS a history behind 'the beards'...but seriously...even if it is a (very successful) marketing gimmick...WTF makes people so full of hatred towards them?

According to Willies wife, he has grown his beard off and on since they were married but hasnt shaved it off in 10 years. If it matters.

I guess I just hate sell-outs, Vance. That's the only excuse I can come up with. Everybody calls them hypocrites, but I haven't seen that. Yeah they were pretty jacked up a few years ago, but people can turn their lives around and try to do better. I just hate going into Walmart and seeing this 12 foot tall cardboard cutout of one of the older ones in the Eyeglasses Center, or going into the Pet store and finding Duck Dynasty pet beds, or Duck Dynasty chew toys. Just seems greedy to me, to have your face splashed all over creation, just to make a buck, when you are already worth more than most.

I've never blamed anyone for being wealthy or wanting more. It's when they do it at the expense of those with less, then call them lazy or some other asinine name.

Sure there are people who take advantage of social programs but most of them are just flat broke with little opportunities. Trust me, the majority don't live well on welfare and would like the chance to make more.

I'd grow a beard and talk hillbilly all day long to make what they have, or to even make more. Robertson said that it's a TV reality show, with a limited amount of success time, so he's milking it. The duck whistles and TV income could all stop or change suddenly, leaving the family to live off what they've made for the rest of their lives. I don't think that makes you phony, unless you preach about not doing something you're guilty of doing.

I do believe they try and stand for principles that don't necessarily coincide with the excess of their commercialism you're pointing out, so I kind of agree with you there.

Walk around a Walmart in the south though, and all you see are Beer brands and NASCAR figures everywhere.

Right, racism would disappear if people would only stop talking openly about discrimination and pretend it didn't happen.

Talking about racism wasn't even the subject.

Wait...why exactly are they 'sell outs'? They are in a very successful family owned business that sells a product they use, and have capitalized on a marketing windfall. They still apparently live the same lives they have for the last 20 years. They enjoy their money, but they also do good things with their money. They adopt. They speak for and on behalf of causes. They host Wounded Warrior activities. And like their position or not, rather than cave to pressure, they maintained their values, even if it would have hurt their product.

I dont think sellING equals selling OUT. Thats just me. Hell...if my home made fishing flies started selling you would see my bearded face on every sporting goods aisle and tackle store in the country. But I would have to warn you in advance...most of my 20 years in the military I went clean shaved. ;)

Thats the thing. The duck calls were a 40 million a year industry BEFORE the TV show. Frankly...that boggles the mind...but...OK...

You want to shoot a quacker, you got to sound like a quacker.

I would've never guessed the hunting business was so big either. I eat meat products, but would have to be awful hungry and familiar with animal slaughter, before I could do more than clean fish.

Lordy you sound like my husband. He spent 20 years in the Army, getting up and shaving at 4am, and the day he retired, he threw his razor away. Now he has a nice beard - not a long, nasty, scraggly one, but a nice one that he keeps neatly maintained. I'm OK with that.

All I'm saying about the others is that they were worth millions upon millions before they even got the stupid TV show. When I said they sold out, it's because they have now allowed their face to be plastered all over everything from dog beds to eyeglasses to ****ing UNDERWEAR WITH HEARTS. That's why I call them sell-outs. The old man was worth like 43 million dollars before the show even started. Why be so greedy that you allow your face, and your brand, to be slapped all over everything, just to make more money. They have more money than they will ever possibly spend.
