Administration again delays Keystone pipeline decision

If land owners were happily receiving money then the companies wouldn't be using eminent domain to seize that property.

Eminent Domain is designed to be used when a few recalcitrant people refuse to provide a right-of-way that is for the common good. If a hundred landowners are smart enough to take money for the pipeline that will not even be visible a year after its installation, why should the entire project be held up by a few.

A oil pipe line is not common good, especially one for export.

why should the entire project be held up by a few

No private company has any business using eminent domain especially a foreign owned entity. It doesn't matter if one property owner or a thousand refuse to sell.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Tell that to the liberals on the Supreme Court. They're the ones that made it legal.

If you respect property rights then you should oppose this pipeline.

If this is the case, highways, railroads, subways, city streets, power lines, stadiums, schools and all the rest also need to be opposed, also.

Fossil fuels will become as extinct as their ancestors, eventually.

That's what they keep saying. Peak oil was supposedly many years ago, but we keep finding more and more.

So what? We still have the pollution problems with fossil fuels that tend to require socialism to bailout capitalism, with the (other) Peoples' money.

We have problems with every type of fuel, so what??

The only thing that has any business being used for eminent domain is public roads. Power lines use public easements.

When gasoline hit $5+per gallon, the transfer of wealth from America to Canada over the next 24 months, was the largest between two countries in history. Canada's dollar gained parity with the US dollar almost overnight and it stayed there for a long time (though with lower gasoline prices, it's trading at 91 cents US currently). We import more raw crude and more refined gasoline from Alberta, than from Saudi Arabia and Mexico combined. Alberta is our gas tank. We should remember that, and we should appreciate it too, since all the other countries we import oil from could hardly be considered the most stable polities on the planet.

Instead, US congressional meddling into Canada's internal affairs, especially regarding the Tar Sands, and now our vacillating over a pipeline that is absolutely vital to US energy interest, is really starting to piss the Canadians off. They're threatening to build the pipeline to Prince Rupert instead, a British Columbia port city that can accommodate supertankers that'd shuttle every drop of oil Canada cares to export to China and India instead of the US. My father was a petroleum geophysicist who worked the Tar Sands for several years. “If we hone our science,” he told me more than 40 years ago, “there’s enough oil here to keep North America burning for 200 years.” That’s a resource and an energy policy we really want a bunch of burned out old hippy marxists buggering up for us…right?

Administration again delays Keystone pipeline decision

just how much more time? 5 years isn't enough time to make a decision?. I guess not - not till we are safely past the midterms

Rarely has so much attention been directed at such a trivial issue. This is not the environmental armageddon some would have you believe; nor does it create any real jobs as others would have you believe. Its just a big yawn all the way around.

When I lived in Minneapolis, the freeway was routed to run through blighted areas. I assumed that the properties demolished to build it were privately owned before they were not.

I felt the same was true of the freeways routed through Indy. Pretty rough neighborhoods around the Freeways. A thoroughfare 15 lanes wide seems a bit more than an easement.

A freeway is a public road.So I have no problem with eminent domain being used for that. A public school or government office can be built in another location or it's floor plan altered to adjust for the property they couldn't buy.

Fossil fuels cannot deliver the scale economies fusion can; fusion's future is so bright, it may have to wear shades.

Please, this nonsense again? Your screed in this regard has been so thoroughly debunked, why persist?

Unicorn power! :lamo

I am as in favor of private property rights as anyone.

I am absolutely opposed to the government condemning the property of one individual so that another individual can build a strip mall. This is a common practice by the big government, scratch my back crowd.

If an eminent domain issue is asserted, I feel that there needs to be heavily rigged hurdles that favor the individual and help to maintain private property.

Simply paying market value should not be enough. Replacement of the property with equal or greater advantage has to be the test and the owner needs to be satisfied.

Not Solomon here. Someone much smarter than me needs to work this out.
