I doubt that the Koch brothers or Roger Ailes supported Barrack Obama.
Government is shrinking along with the middle class, while the filthy rich become still richer. We are in a new gilded age not because of government, but because government has failed to do its job. Financial deregulation, corporate lobbyists and dismantling of campaign finance laws is what got in the mess we are in now. We are not going to fix the problem unless we are able to get control of government back from the corporations.
Politicians and the bureaucracy get ever stronger and to expect government 'to do its job' is foolhardy. The politicians job is to get relected and the job of the bureaucracy is to protect that bureaucracy. And it's the middle class who generally pays for all of this.

Most foreigners feel they know everything there is to know about America. They get it from TV, the movies, and the commercials.

Dumbed down by choice. Which means fundamentally we are not a oligarchy. Someone has to actually walk into a booth and vote. No corporation forces them to.

Of course this is just complete nonsense. There are millions of civil servants who are working to give you safe water, healthy food, fight diseases, prevent floods, deliver the mail, fighting crime and provide thousand of other valuable services. If you want to live in a place where there is no government service, spend a few months in parts of Africa where government has effectively collapsed. I think you'll then appeciate the benefits of government services.

And not everyone has been brainwashed by the Koch brothers and Fox news, but the number of working and middle class people who vote for policies that further enrich the rich and powerful is astonishing. The inheritance tax is a good example - many poor people will vote to eliminate the inheritance tax which only affects a very small number of very rich people.

really? well if people would bother to read the founders, they will tell you this.

our government started out as a republican form, then it moved towards a democratic form with the 17th amendment, now that democratic form has moved to towards rule by a few, and it will turn towards rule of 1 in time.

"when the people become uneducated, and don't know what kind of government they have, it will turn into a democracy, followed by oligarchy then dictatorship"

all of you democratic forms of government advocates are getting the evil you wanted so badly.

No, but Wall Street certainly supports him. They were a significant contributor to at least his first campaign. The denizens of Wall Street have a marked presence in his administration.
