Holomodor which killed 7.5 million Ukrainians in one year. This mindset of Jews being special victims of genocide doesn't get as much traction in societies which have suffered their own genocides. So because the culture doesn't elevate the Holocaust as highly as we do in the horror category in the West, they're not as sensitive to the issue. Ask regular Americans to describe what the Holomodor was. Why don't we know? Aren't the lives of 7.5 million dead Ukrainians worth honoring?
Secondly, because they're not ignorant of the Holocaust, I wouldn't put it past the militia to play up on the allusion to history. They're looking to intimidate and this is a very effective tool to achieve that end. They're not as culturally restricted in trotting out this tool due to their own history with genocide.
