Colbert is great, I hope he can turn the late show into something worth watching. I haven't been interested in any of them in many years.

Hoping Colbert can do well, been a few years since I watched any of network late shows regularly. Be interested to see how he does not playing a character, been so long I can't remember if I've seen him out of character or not.

As long as he isn't terrible at it, might be able to give Fallon a run for his money.

Hmm... CBS trying to show that NBC isn't the only network that can't find a replacement for a late night show?
    No broad-based appeal? lol

Unless they can get Jon Stewart to move to CBS and open for him, I suspect his ratings will probably resemble Piers Morgans in pretty short order.But...good for him. It might be fun to see what his real persona is.

That's kind of my thought too. He's definitely talented and I like him as an interviewer...but the shtick he's been doing for years isn't going to work as a late night network host. I absolutely think he can adapt, but at the same time it's a question of whether or not how he adapts actually interests people.

It will be sad to see the Colbert report disappear due to his departure to the Late Show but I think he will loose the essence of what is now the character of Stephen Colbert in order to the this new job.

I think he will, on his show now he sometimes shows his interviewing brilliance during his interviews on the Colbert Report, sure it will be toned down but his on his feet interviewing ability will not disappear after he changes jobs. Also, he is a comedian and will do the same thing for part of the Late Show (from what I remember when I last saw it years ago).

But with him on something like the Late Show they can just stick a fork in it because it will be done. Which "liberal" Hollywood star will want to sit next to Limbaugh due to his spotty and very conservative past.

This will most likely mean that Colbert will not make it to his 10 year anniversary of his Colbert report (because he started October 17th 2005), that also sucks, a 10 year anniversary would have been a great achievement for his kind of show.

I always liked Jon Stewart better. Colbert to me was a less-insightful host riding Stewart's coat-tails.

And for all those praising Colbert's brilliant interviews...wtf are you watching? He only lets the interviewee say two words then interjects with some "gotcha!" remark that completely disrupts the rhythm of the guy trying to answer his question. It's like the comedic version of an O'Reilly interview.
