In the 1950s and 1960s, as a conservative Southern Democrat. Why is this so hard to understand?

The KKK and all of the NeoNazi groups don't qualify as being liberal on only one axis - embrace of the other. They don't like blacks, Jews, Mexicans, etc.

If you strip out that axis and then look at their other platforms, they love socialism, they want subsidies, they don't want inequality, they want fairness, but they want all that only for people within their group.

Present-day conservatives are far more sensitive to in-group loyalty than present-day liberals - no question here. That however doesn't mean that the conservatives of today are inheritors of all that the Southern Democrats, the KKK and the neonazis believed in. These guys were, after all, Democrats - they loved all that socialism jazz. This also means that liberals of today can't disown their forefathers, even the racist ones, just because those party forefathers believed that socialism was meant to operate only for the benefit of white people.

Yes, everyone wants to make as much money as they can and don't want to pay more for anything.. Point taken.

I never said they were liberals, I said they were Democrats. We all know that Democrats can often be very illiberal. as their history clearly demonstrates.

Well, the original post I replied to didn't say "Republicans." Try to keep up before turning yet another thread into your usual anti-Democrat nonsense.

Yet,despite his history, the Democrats continued until his death to elect and honor him? Hard to believe.

It could be. How dare you suggest what I believe and don't believe. You get to manipulate your material all you want, distort, post lies and all that other stuff (or is that nimby) but you don't get to tell me what I believe and don't.

Wasn't he the one spouting the "n" word late into the 1990's? Why is it so hard to understand?
