And The World's "Most Powerful" Nation Is...

its fun hearing the pitiful lamentations from has been nations still upset that the USA has eclipsed their once important nation in just about every area that counts. remind me the last time Wales mattered:mrgreen:

You support colonialism? Surprise me - say something decent about something, sometime, do.

I support America. I think most adventurism is deleterious to America's interests. Is Wales a colony of GB? or an afterthought?

Why do you hate America so much?

Cymru is a colony, slowly regaining control over its life. I don't hate anyone - it is a capitalist footle. I find the way you grovel to your masters very laughable, though. :)

translation-you appear to have a radical view of the UK and a hatred of anything capitalistic.

The whining about the USA appears to be projection over UK domination of Wales

Interesting a thread about the "worlds most powerful nation" and it seems to be dominated by posts about Cuba.......

The sad thing is that you don't realize it is the truth. Your programming is working well and if you'll be patient, your next thought is in the pipeline and on the way. Ain't it wonderful, no thinking required? Say something bad about Venezuela, Russia, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Egypt, Haiti, and explain how all these worthless scumbags get bad press, ala Mainstream Media. Keep an eye on OIL, it may influence your news.

Go ahead and attack me, Dave, it doesn't improve your argument. There is a very good reason why you aren't risking your life to get to Cuba. Deep down you don't really believe the Cuban state propaganda. It is why you are here and not there. It's why you don't for a minute think of leaving here while millions of Cubans consider walking into the ocean with a flimsy raft just to get away or die trying.

The scumbags who turned Cuba into an American gambling-den and a brothel, obviously. You think your scumbags weren't corrupt? Why do you think the Cuban people reject you like the bloody plague, man?

You ever been to Miami man?

Actually more third world, the system of government is middle ages mandarin with the efficiencies of Germany's National Socialists, what the west sees as "middle class" is more akin to the merchant class of middle ages Europe.

Her might is her own market; it is no longer possible to ignore her mammoth needs and in return the world absorbs not only her trinkets but engineering, bridges, and skyscrapers around the world.

Her military might is as it has always been, vast unlivable plains and enough people that they can and have waged war by making the enemy run out of ammunition. Her war technology is advancing rapidly. Americans should not be smug about their current superiority, but remember the last arms race, where the country with the superior economy won. The USSR simply could not keep pace and went broke trying. The US is broke paying entitlements, and are in deep debt to the Chinese.

Yeah, well, the Chinese economy isn't exactly the most stable on Earth. They build entire uninhabited cities the size of New York that only a handful of Chinese can afford to live in just to keep busy. The Demographics in the long run are a looming disaster. The unfortunate thing is that China's economy will likely reach such a fevered pitch in the next 20 years that it will need to start feeding on other economies to stay alive.

Interesting thread.

On one hand, we have an (apparently serious?) discussion of whether Cuba is the most powerful nation in the world.

On the other hand, we have the classic capitalist vs communist squabbles.

Some have tried to support China as the choice, unconvincingly, yet none have acquiesced to the fact that, yes, America is of course the most powerful nation in the world.

China's gross output is roughly half of our own with triple to four times our population. They also lack the political transparency required to play a larger role in global financial markets, let alone a role comparable to our own. Our military also dwarfs theirs in terms of both technological prowess and global influence. Poor analysis.

Ordos, China: A Modern Ghost Town - Photo Essays - TIME

A recent CBS 60 Minutes report in the US exposed dozens of new cities in China sitting empty - with the apartments snapped up as investments by the nation's wealthy middle class, then sitting empty as the owners fail to find tenants who can meet the rent.

Financial experts fear the ghost town explosion will lead to a housing bubble burst, following China's real estate boom which came after the government changed its policy 15 years ago and allowed people to buy their homes.

This isn't anything new.

Well, the big capitalist countries are states, but they are hardly nations, are they? What do their various peoples have in common?

Capitalist outside China, communist within.

The powers that be in China have the best of both worlds from their perspective.
