Justices strike down political donor limits

RWers are going to love this....until they realize the Democrats are raising just as much unlimited money. Just like Citizens' United -- once they realized it applied to Unions too, they didn't like it so much.

I Said both parties are guilty and your response was "Well we're not as bad so it's ok".

I'm not the one who needs my eyes opened.

That's quite moderate of you, but it's inaccurate.

One party has some bad actors, while the other part is built purely and entirely on a mountain of lies and corruption.

Corporate are built by people, employ people, and serve people. They also pay massive taxes to government. Those taxes are made up of money earned by those people, and as a whole, it deserves a voice in politics.

Much more, in fact, than the 5th grade dropout who's hooked on heroin that is picked up in a bus and pushes a button in exchange for another hit.
Corporations are created by state permission (charter), they have legal requirements (paying taxes on profits for instance), but that doesn't entitle them to full rights as a citizen. They cannot vote, they cannot serve in the military, they cannot run or hold political office.

No taxation without representation. They can't cast a vote beyond the population of the corporation, but they should have a voice if the corporation is taxed as an individual. Political contributions are a voice.

If not, then the federal and state governements shouldn't be allowed to tax them.

No taxation without representation.
For natural born citizens, again, corporations are not.

Again, conflating citizen with chartered entity.

We're going nowhere with this, so I'm done.

If you think corporations will be stopped from political donations, you're dreaming. They have, can, and will.

I think most conservatives know by now that the left has a long list of billionaire funding sources. This is about free speech, not winning elections... a distinction that seems lost on most left wingers.

Therein lies the unfathomable irony of Democrats.

They keep voting the same way over and over, and they keep falling behind further and further.

We're going nowhere with this, so I'm done.

If you think corporations will be stopped from political donations, you're dreaming. They have, can, and will.

Then this is the biggest reason America is lost.

And it's down to people like you believeing one party is truly better than the other, stuck on the right wing left wing hamster wheel that will get you nowhere.

You support plutocracy.

You support the end of democracy as we know it.

I'm still arguing about corporate "personhood".

We have limited corporate political spending since 1976...that is until Roberts decided to ignore history.

Except that I never vote straight party line, because I know that they're both beyond polluted. Your post indicates that you don't get that yet.

I don't support a party. I support reality. I support what I know to be true, and what works. I understand that half my country can't get itself out of bed before noon, but instead of placating them, and exploiting them, I look them in the eye and tell them what is real, not what they want to hear.

One party talks along those lines, but doesn't follow them. However, the other party carries on with no sense of integrity and without shame. It's not a 50/50 crime that's being perpetrated.

There is a soulless, inherent evil in the Democratic Party today.

See my response above to Jetboogieman regarding my opinion of the level of corruption in the two parties.

Property is not represented in a government designed for The People. Even if corporations are taxed (as all property is) there's no such this as taxation without representation for property. Not in such a way as to assume immoral behavior.

File this under "duh", although you can never be quite sure with this Supreme Court.

The fact that it's 5-4 is astounding. That "four" don't even think you should have to present a valid ID to vote, but they want to tell valid voters what to do with their money.

Keep in mind that those same 4 are the only ones who believe that destroying the 4th Amendment is a bad idea.

This i agree they should have to disclose who gives them over that amount of money.

No they shouldn't. In a free market, anyone should be allowed to give any amount of $$ to any candidate without having to disclose it.

The current problem w/political donations is that those who have the connections to launder funds or transfer them directly via Swiss bank accounts have an unfair advantage over other donors.

And that needs to end.

no because i don't want foreign countries donating money through dummy corporations. which is illegal. there has to be a way to track where the money comes from.
this isn't a free market. this is a political election.

I don't care how many foreign individuals donate to US elections. I only care whether the US govt. does it (and it currently has the world record on it) at taxpayer expense.

you should care. if you don't care then that is your issue. money should still be accountable from where it comes from.
