Obamacare enrollment hits 7 million

I think we all know what Republicans and Democrats think of the ACA, Democrats are all for it, Republicans against. So then what is up with all the polls that combine for an RCP average of 9 different polls that show 40% for the ACA and 52% against? One would think since the Democratic base is much larger than the Republican base, there would be more for the law than against if it was just a political party thing as most people want to make it.

RealClearPolitics - Election Other - Public Approval of Health Care Law

So where does this 12 point gap come from, if it is just political what are so many more people oppose to it than for it? The answer lies with the independents, those of us who do not identify or associate ourselves with either major party. Whereas those who identify with the Democratic Party support the ACA by a 80-12 margin, Republicans oppose the ACA by a 91-7 margin. Now to explain the 12 point gap, that is because only 36% of independent are for the ACA while 60% are against it. It is independents, non-affiliates that provided the gap, that provide the basis of the majority of Americans still being oppose to the ACA.

In fact, without the majority of independent being oppose to the ACA, we wouldn't be talking about the Republicans having a chance to gain control of the senate this year. 2014 would resemble 2012 more than 2010. So we will take a seat and see what happens in November. Things can change between now and then, if I were a Democrat I would be hoping and praying they do. If I were a Republican, I would want things to remain the same as today.

A lot of democrats are opposed to Obamacare as well...

The problem with Obamacare as that all provisions in the bill need to be included to make the program successful, however the 6-foot bill shrank to a few hundred pages, because most of the Bill was nothing more than illegal regulations (which both republicans and democrats were opposed to).... The only mandate left holding this POS piece of legislation together is the individual mandate and the general populace has completely ignored that - well I suppose with the exception of 7 million which is basically nothing (or 2.3% of the population).

Regardless of my politics - this program is a disaster, and quite frankly downright stupidity.

Healthcare vouchers would have made more sense, and would have been a lot cheaper for the US taxpayer than this insane program.

Would someone please explain to me why people still believe anything this Administration tells them?

Gallup survey suggests sign-ups under ObamaCare not as high as White House says | Fox News

The administration says 7.1 million have signed up for subsidized private plans through new insurance markets, while 3 million previously uninsured people gained coverage through the law's Medicaid expansion.

Why the huge difference? For starters, the administration's numbers include people who switched or were dropped from their previous coverage, as well as people who have not paid their first month's premium, and who would therefore still be uninsured.

Or the poll was wrong. Just as likely. :coffeepap

Got it, the poll was wrong but Obama right? Guess only polls that show you what you want to believe are accurate? You tell me how many of the 7.1 million who are reported to have signed up were people who actually received cancellation notices, how many signed up but haven't paid their premiums, how many were eligible for Medicaid without ACA? With all the money put into the website and modern technology today why don't we have a breakdown of the actual numbers?

How long are you going to make excuses for Obama and buy what he tells you? We heard for over 8 years about those so called Bush lies but not a word about Obama's, wonder why?

This is a thread about ACA and never dreamed I would have to signify federal, state or local in a thread about a Federal Program called ACA. There are a lot of state programs that work, many of them in TX but that reality is ignored by Obama supporters. TX has a very good Tort Reform bill as well.

A healthcare program in Texas that works? You have to be kidding me. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured people of any state in the United States. Are you sure you want to stick with that talking point?

You should recognize all possibilities.

And I have made no excuses.

TX has an extremely high number of people who qualify for Medicaid, CHIP, and other programs but have failed to sign up. We also have a large number of people who CHOOSE not to purchase insurance preferring to pay their own bills. Guess choice only matters when it comes to murdering the unborn or other programs that liberals support.

Guess in the liberal world the govt. of the state should be going door to door and spoon feed people. Don't know how many times we have to go through this with you and others but TX is doing just fine and personal responsibility is an issue in this state.

The poll is Gallup and is what it is. You can discard it and will because it doesn't give you the support you want but what you cannot refute is the fact that the numbers aren't broken down and we have no idea how many were previously insured people who got cancellation notices thus weren't uninsured or how many people were eligible for Medicaid prior to ACA or how many people signed up and haven't made a premium payment. Doesn't stop supporters from posting an OP like this one and then have a problem being challenged

I'm not the one doing the discarding. You are. Now if you can show what the poll is more valid, that would be a start. But you merely assume it is. Why? I suspect because thats what you want to believe, evidence to the contrary be damned.

But since you like survey's, try this one:

Survey: Roughly 3.5 million gained coverage under the new health law

It's a Gallup poll as well. And it clearly states this:

“The Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as ‘Obamacare,’ appears to be accomplishing its goal of increasing the percentage of Americans with health insurance,” said Gallup’s analysis of the findings.

So in your opinion we need ACA to get 3.5 million of the reported 45 million uninsured according to Whitehouse. gov? Interesting logic and apparently costs don't matter to you as long as it makes you feel good about getting 3.5 million enrolled. CBO revised their estimates in 2014 for Obamacare and now projects it to cost 1.8 trillion over 10 years and the best you can do is get 3.5 million signed up. Do you realize that a simple tax credit would cost less and do a better job than ACA. I wouldn't be touting 3.5 million as a success but I guess you can continue to fool Obama supporters all the time.

Well, I know 0 is better than 3.5 million by your math, but yeah, as Gallup noted, it is moving forward and accomplishing its goal.

It's goal was to get most of the "45 million uninsured" insured and 3.5 million is a long way from that goal and an incredible expense. I realize that someone else paying the bill doesn't phase you at all but it really is sad that liberals have such low standards and expectations.

So? It takes time. But it it is progressing. 3.5 million is a long way from 0 as well.

Except it's not. It wasn't accomplishing it's goal at the illusory 7 million figure, and certainly not with half that. And again I'll remind you: "enrolled" doesn't mean ****. Signed up, doesn't mean ****. They still have to pay before they are insured, and that's not a certainty.

Yep. But again, it does show progress. It's unlikely that most won't find a way for it to be paid.

No, it's not, it shows even the so-called desparate uninsured, who were dying for insurance, won't sign up, won't pay even when it's subsidized. And you are absolutely reversed - it's highly unlikely that most will pay beyond the first payment. A year in and I think most will be uninsured again due to lack of payment.

So? It takes time. But it it is progressing. 3.5 million is a long way from 0 as well.

At the current cost and rising it is just another example of a Federal social program that cost more than intended, covering less than intended, and never solving a problem. What is it about spending someone else's money to get these kind of results that motivates people like you to support failure?

Everyone pay close attention to the shell game being played here.

Gallop showed a total of 3.5 million people "gained health insurance" under the new law, ABC reports that Medicaid added 3 million people to Medicaid.

Earlier a 32 State review showed that 4.7 million people lost insurance due to Obamacare in those 32 states while 20% of the touted 7 million enrolled in Obamacare haven't actually paid... so that appears to be a bit of a wash with about as many people losing insurance as signing up for private insurance.

So of the 3.5 million people added, apparently 85% of them were Medicaid recipients. This could have been accomplished without touching the private market.

Won't? Hardly shows that.

But UHC would be a better option.

Too soon for that. You're leaping to conclusions not yet supported.

Maybe, but they could be two separate numbers.

Why? You don't seem to get it, you are paying for the uninsured in your state now and with ACA you are paying for the uninsured in other states as well. Liberals simply think with their hearts. UHC would be another Federal Disaster just like Medicare is which is a single payer system that is underfunded and had money contributed "borrowed" by Congress to spend on what they want to spend. You continue to have faith in a Federal Govt. that has created a 17.3 trillion dollar and growing national debt. Why? wouldn't it be easier just giving the American people a check?

Here's another number:

But researchers at the Urban Institute's Health Policy Center have weighed in with their own estimate. They're figuring that the ACA has reduced the number of uninsured Americans by 5.4 million from the first quarter of 2013 through early March this year.

Their estimate is based on data from their March 2014 Health Reform Marketing Survey, which consists of public polling. Their finding is that the uninsurance rate for adults ages 18–64 was 15.2% for the nation in early March, a decline of 2.7 percentage points since September 2013, just before open enrollment on the exchanges began Oct. 1.

"This represents a gain in coverage for about 5.4 million adults," they write.

A look at how many Obamacare enrollees were uninsured: 5.4 million - latimes.com

And if we put everyone in a UHC system, we'd pay less on the whole and have better access. Isn't that what you want?

Don't you think the Obama admin would be advertising that front and center if they were?

It does seem to be presented that way. Are you expecting a parade with fireworks?
