Atlanta archbishop apologizes over $2.2M mansion

    http://news.yahoo.com/atlanta-archbi...001953367.html

He demolished the one-story home on Mitchell's property, which was donated to the church, and replaced it with a Tudor-style mansion. In January, a group of local Catholics met with the archbishop and asked that he sell the large home and return to his old residence. They cited the example of Pope Francis, who turned down living quarters in a Vatican palace and drives a simple car.

"The example of the Holy Father, and the way people of every sector of our society have responded to his message of gentle joy and compassion without pretense, has set the bar for every Catholic and even for many who don't share our communion," Gregory said.
I like this pope. His dislike of bling bling Christianity is having effects in Germany and now Atlanta, GA. This is a type of Christianity I could probably embrace.

Everyone likes the new Pope but it never occurs to them that it's merely PR to regain followers after the previous Pope caused a hemorrhage in the Church's international standing.

I say this as a former Catholic. Does anyone actually believe the Catholic Church is a force for good in the world as a whole?

You realize the first sentence does not add credential to your statement (phrased as a question), right? Of course, it detracts from the cred of your statement. You realize you're undermining your own nonsense with the prelude, right?

I find this statement hard to believe. The last Pope did not such thing. Those who hated him already hated the Roman Church, in general, or were at least implicitly hostile to its traditional identity and teaching.

Yes, but it rather clear your idea of good is quite different to that of the Church, so the question seems rather pointless to me.

You may want to look into this mans life before becoming pontiff...might be a bit enlightening.

I have no problem critiquing the church as there is much to do so with....but the new Pope is sincerely good, and seems to be making needed change in the corporation.

    Not particularly relevant.
