the camera if it is any good is at least 200. the lcd in the front to view it is another 200 or so. then the cost of putting it in and installing it.
factor in overhead and profit margin yes. very much so.
tech packages already to include these on the cars range from 600-1000 already.
I think your estimates are a bit off. Companies are doing lane detection with a $50 mono camera. There's a huge push in the industry to get simple reliable cost effective sensor packages. Hence now you can source an LCD for $10-$15 and a decent camera for another $10. Think about everything your phones does; battery, highres screen, multiple cameras, multiple cell radios, bluetooth, wifi, a complete OS etc... and that's only a few hundred.
It's really not going to impact the cost of a car.
