With all these new safety mandates makes me wonder how I made it through childhood. No car seat, no seat belts, etc.

Backup cameras are a nice to have. Making them manditory is a bit much. Guess we need a front camera also. Little ones up close the vehicle you can't see either.

And when some mom backs over her kid because she was looking at her phone instead of her camera a new radar device will be mandatory that auto stops the car when it detects an object. I wonder how much that will cost. I think we also need ladders that have 50 lb blocks of concrete attached to each leg too. Ladders kill!

I'm a right winger and I'm in favor of this. It's a safety item, like seat belts and airbags.

Besides, people are idiots when they're backing out of parking spaces, maybe this will help.

If no one can afford newer cars, yeah. People will keep fixing the old beaters.

I remember similar whining and bitching when airbags became mandatory.

Cue up the right wing outrage. My left wing self thinks this is a great idea. I suspect most of us have backed into something over the course of time.
What would the sheeple do without their beloved nanny state?

Based on your posts maybe you and your wife should consider your own advice.

Just because a car is older doesn't make it a beater. The best older cars inthe country are in LA

    Sometimes I'm that guy.

I try to avoid it though. Being close to the car in front of me is kinda scary, because I can recall times when I saw brake lights and not really having enough space to stop...

Edit: Of course I rarely if ever travel during rush hour.

Edit 2: Driving to and from work is the scariest thing I do every day. Wonder why I don't realize that more often...

    Education.
