Maybe they should mandate heads-up displays.
I like those too. My wife's old Grand Prix had it. Some asshole rearended her and totaled it. I have astigmatism, it was wonderful before I got the contacts to correct it.

OK that explains it. That is a nice thought but there will always be older cars in LA. The cars don't rust and people take care of them really well there.

If it's required equipment, it will be required to be maintained.

That's where the real cost will be. Getting it fixed.

And for many cars, a lot of these systems tend to all fail at around the same time. Cheaper to just get a new car. Possible ulterior motive?

I'm sure everyone raised hell about ABS, too, though.

Cue up the right wing outrage. My left wing self thinks this is a great idea. I suspect most of us have backed into something over the course of time.
They are nice, not sure if they should be mandated, just going to increase costs and is another thing to break. If you can afford it, great. But I don't think it's such a great improvement that it would require mandating.
You know the time is right to take control, we gotta take offense against the status quo

I know, I own a few myself. The problem is keeping Sacramento from outlawing them, which they have tried to do.

It's all about the environment here, and Hemi Cuda's driven 1,000 miles per year are going to end all life forms on Earth.

For newer smog controlled cars, if they don't pass the bi-annual inspection, they will eventually be banned from use. As it is, they get shoved into Gross Polluter class and the clock is ticking on allowing them to remain on the road.

You are comparing older cars in LA to the cars in Cuba?

There are ways around that. It is easy.

They will eventually come after you with Black Helicopters and road side "sniffers" to find the polluters.

If one is found to have obtained a smog cert by "easy" methods, the car is confiscated, as well as ones money, and who knows, perhaps freedom.

One has to remember we are referring to California here, nothing is too far from reality...

I know we are talking about California. there are many excemptions to having to get the smog certificate in the first place and a person can do one of those. There are also other states that do not require smog certs close by. I used to do it all the time.
