the camera if it is any good is at least 200. the lcd in the front to view it is another 200 or so. then the cost of putting it in and installing it.
factor in overhead and profit margin yes. very much so.

tech packages already to include these on the cars range from 600-1000 already.

The government has been making a living trying to save people from themselves for decades and all it's done is make people believe that they have no need to be personally responsible for anything.
Sums up the GOP philosophy nicely.

Towing and rental car costs too. After getting ripped off a total of about $7000 - I found out that if that particular early model Merc is parked too close to something in front or behind it won't allow it to go into gear as a safety precaution. Meaning she had parked too close to the bushes, so wouldn't let it be put into gear. The dealer used that to rip her off 3 times. Thieving bastards.
Technology is great when it's working properly, when it doesn't, some of us are at the mercy of the fixer.

And they will come down. That's the way it works.

proof or evidence because they haven't come down yet and i seriously doubt that if they are forced to put them in that they are going to lose money.
if you think that they are going to lose money then well you don't know business and are the typical liberal that think people will just give up profit.

they don't give up profit. no business gives up profit. they will just install the proper tech package as included and charge the cost.
the only difference will be that it won't be a line item, but the cost of the car will go up to match the speced price.

I think your estimates are a bit off. Companies are doing lane detection with a $50 mono camera. There's a huge push in the industry to get simple reliable cost effective sensor packages. Hence now you can source an LCD for $10-$15 and a decent camera for another $10. Think about everything your phones does; battery, highres screen, multiple cameras, multiple cell radios, bluetooth, wifi, a complete OS etc... and that's only a few hundred.

It's really not going to impact the cost of a car.

Economies of scale are at play here. They don't sell all that many now. The more they install, the lower the cost.

But the issue is one of losing yet another freedom - the freedom to choose whether or not we buy a camera. Millions of bureaucrats are busy figuring out how to control our lives to a greater degree. It is frightening to me.

They said the same thing about seat belts. Today's technology makes back-up cameras cheaper than those first seat belts too.

You are kidding I hope. Freedom to buy a camera? What is that? I think it is the freedom to back up over your grandson that you are complaining about.
