It's a silly mandate.
Now if you limit it to large pickup trucks, SUV..or have some standard measure such as( can't see <5ft behind said car), that makes much more sense.
Men do what they have to when they want to, Great men do what they have to, even when they don't want to.
Of course, car makers and makers of the camera device would support this legislation.
all this did was jack the price of the car up about 1000 dollars.

In general I'm opposed to forcing businesses or people to do anything.

This is said to be mandatory for cars made after a date in 2018. I am sure by then a new technology will ba available making back up cameras obsolete, like removing the rear of all cars to save weight or making them out of a thin transparent plastic.
Lawyers might love this after backup cameras are installed, then fail because of a glitch, I can see car makers being sued because a backup camera failed, and someone ran over a child.
