I'm considering an aftermarket one for my cargo van, eBay has them for around 30 bucks.
It's just a little extra cushion of safety, drivers really need to know what's behind them when backing up, if you hit a car with a suv, a van or a pickup truck, that's easily a couple thousand dollars in potential damage.

I'm sure there would be some sort of outcry if Obama was involved, but there's no sense looking for outrage where none exists.
Among the rental cars that I have driven in the past few years, with ridiculously huge blind spots, were a Toyota Yaris and a Ford Fiesta, both subcompacts, much smaller than my Contour. There is some element of very, very bad design, that seems to be creeping into all contemporary cars, of all makes, all sizes, and all styles, that is creating these very bad blind spots that have no good reason to exist.
