Tomboy pressured to leave Christian school [W: 87]

Who cares? If Christian schools have a dress code and kids don't want to follow it then they should be dismissed.

When I was 12 I went to a Catholic school with uniforms and I didn't last long - I was expelled after 2 months...

It seems weird that someone wouldn't want you...

It looks as though this Christian school is showing it true colors. Start looking like a girl or leave is their message. I am not religious but I don't have a problem with others believing whatever faith they choose so don't think this is Christian bashing because it's not. I think this is outrageously stupid though.

Tomboy pressured to leave Christian school | The Journal Gazette

FOREST, Va. – Eight-year-old Sunnie Kahle likes to keep her hair short, wear boys clothes, collect hunting knives and shoot her BB gun.

“She’s a pure, 100 percent tomboy,” said her great-grandfather Carroll Thompson, who along with his wife, Doris, adopted their granddaughter’s child.

But to Timberlake Christian School administrators, the second-grader’s boyish ways warranted an ultimatum: Start acting like a girl or find another school.

The good news is that she can now go to a real school, ya know, the kind of school that doesn't teach Jesus rode a dinosaur.

You gotta admit that this is awesome though:

The school's problem with her, is that she looks and acts a boy. Since this a private school they certainly have a right to reject her if they choose to. I explained in the OP that I'm not religious in any way, however it seems to me that rejecting her is un-Christian like. [bold mine]

If you aren't christian or religious then what do you know about it? Some Christian sects, just like Hebrew and Muslim sects, have certain standards and customs when it comes clothing. "Seems to me" you are injecting your values on them.

Well, if being a Christian has anything to do with Jesus....not sure Jesus would be on board with their decision.;)

Are you suggesting that Jesus did not follow the religious laws and customs of his day? Where did you get that information?

Are you saying he would personally cast out those who did not comply? Where did you get your information?

No, no don't turn this around on me. You claimed that Jesus would "not be on board with this decision" and I asked you where you got that information? Where was there anything in the Jesus narrative that suggests that he did not follow the religious laws and customs of his day? Your claim is that Jesus would not approve, you need to prove that? Otherwise you are just spouting your own opinion.

I believe that, when people were following the religious customs of that time, Jesus said "He who is without sin cast the first stone".

Yeah, a real school where teachers would allow this eight-year-old to collect hunting knives and shoot her BB gun.

This kid seems to have moved beyond just casting stones. She's got a BB gun and knives.

I believe that, when people were following the religious customs of that time, Jesus said "He who is without sin cast the first stone".

But what was the context? The Pharisees were trying to trick Jesus into siding against the law on adultery by bringing an accused woman before him. When he said, "he who is without sin.." it was an accusation against those who were using the situation for a ulterior motive. But the key here is that after the accusers backed down what did Jesus say to the woman? He said "go and sin no more". He did not say that she had not sinned.

53 Then each of them went home, 1 while Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him and he sat down and began to teach them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery; and making her stand before all of them, 4 they said to him, ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. 5 Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?’ 6 They said this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, ‘Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.’ 8 And once again he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9 When they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the elders; and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus straightened up and said to her, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ 11 She said, ‘No one, sir.’ And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.

The moral of that story was that justice without mercy was wrong. Jesus did not say the woman was just in her sin even as he showed her mercy. But he clearly told not to sin again.

Bottom line here: if you are going to use a Jesus argument, get it right.

You turned it around on yourself.

If the Jesus would have turned this child away, I think the whole concept of Christianity should be rightfully scrutinized.

Try not to think too hard on this.

Jesus would have told the child to follow the rules. I think you are confusing the devil for Jesus. The devil is the one who breaks the rules and satisfies his own demands and desires over those of others.

Bottom line: don't use the Jesus argument if you don't know what you are talking about. You said so yourself, so why use that argument, unless your only motivation is to trivialize the religious beliefs of others.

Again, if you support a business kicking out blacks, yes you support racism. Nuff said.

If Pat Robertson owned a fast-food chain that tasted good, I'd eat the Christ out of those Jesus biscuits. I could care less what the old bastard says.

I'm done being trolled. Either you get it and you're egging this on, or I need flash cards I don't currently have on me. Have a nice night.

Surely you know Sanga's tactic's by now. Same with Next Era. Both of them know what you are saying, they just don't have the character to admit it.

A business should be able to refuse service to anyone for any reason. Just like not serving blacks, it would also be alright for a business to not serve whites, or liberals or other fool they don't want to serve. This would allow everyone to see just how businesses truly feel. I imagine the most restrictive businesses would be the ones to fail more often.

I know what he's saying, but I also know what he's not saying (ie. How it's not racism to deny service to black people)

I know what he's saying, but I also know what he's not saying (ie. How it's not racism to deny service to black people)

It absolutely is racism to deny service to blacks based on their race alone...And further it is a stupid business model. If I owned a business that denied service to anyone I'd be effectively saying that I don't want their money. And if I were a competitor of a business like that I would make sure that whom ever was being turned away would know that I would gladly love their money along with everyone elses....But, does that mean that if I don't actively shut that other business down then I am condoning anything he/she does? I don't believe so, but I know that should I be effective at relaying my message to the market then the people will close it due to lack of customer base, and I will benefit.

I could tell you were a liberal even without looking at your declaration

I can tell you're a conservative with your smug response. See how easy this is?

I did not say you were a racist. I did say that you were supporting racism

Since you now admit that a business that forbid serving blacks would be racism, and since you are supporting their "right" to practice racism, then you *are* supporting racism

Supporting someone's right to do something is not the same as supporting what they do. I support the free speech rights of fringe groups, even hate groups, but I don't support their message. I think private businesses should have the right to serve who they want to serve, but if a business in my neighborhood hung up a "Whites Only" sign, I personally would refrain from giving my business to them if possible.

Just because I support your right to do something, doesn't mean I think those actions are morally right.

Interesting, so if you support right to abortion, then you support the abortion itself.

Jesus would not turned the child away.

Probably not, he would have said go home and come back dressed like a girl like you have been told to do.
