You know how others herald teams like the 49ers and such? That's the pedestal that college players are at in the South - they generate far more revenue than their scholarships weigh in at. In fact, the states pay far more for the coaches salaries than the team player's scholarships combined, I bet.

I think that is exploitation 100%.
Good then pay the teenagers minimum wage when they're in high school and if they get drafted the NFL teams can pay for their college...

It's that simple - the NHL works the same way but players who are drafted go on to college on scholarships if they want to and others go on to their NHL teams (which is rare) or are assigned to their junior teams (teams of players between the ages of 16-20 until they make the pros or are released) where they make a small salary like college football players should.

You can't sign a contract when you are under 18, for obvious reasons.

    Their parent or guardian can....

Child actors sign contracts all the time, teenage athletes (under the age of 18) sign contracts all the time.... I'm no contract lawyer and have no idea how the logistics work but these kids/guardians certainly sign contracts...

Hell, in Canada these kids are playing pretty much semi-pro hockey at the age of 16.

Well I don't think that's a good idea at all. Kids need an education and playing sports full time as a professional takes a LOT of time and commitment. Meanwhile, things like school work are being ignored.

Not to mention, we all know about how a lot of child stars end up and how much their parents "care" about them and their well-being.

Well, I don't know much about child actors, but I can tell you that a lot of these kids in hockey in Canada go to some of the best schools - and the sport isn't full time - instead of having a job they play hockey.

I wish I could say the same thing about college football.... Football players are generally morons. Obviously Northwestern is one of the better schools in North America and the truth is some students are there for their athletic ability and NOT their intellect.

Certainly not all of them are morons. I do agree that they should have to keep up their grades and do well in academics too. I don't really know the rules surrounding how one goes about awarding athletic scholarships though. Do they have to maintain a certain grade point average to receive a scholarship?

No, they're not all morons just a proportionate amount of them are.

No one cares if these guys can read or write at their grade level or "age level"...

Besides, if these tools were actually educated they wouldn't want to unionize.

Maybe you have a point there. Good night Mr. Nick!

All of these questions! Unsolvable! We may as well just let universities leech off the hard work done by these athletes!

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. - MLK
