Arizona woos Mexico, downplays anti-immigrant law

Well... this is shocking to some degree..

    http://news.yahoo.com/arizona-woos-m...044119263.html

Official delegations have come across the border several times in the last year looking to drum up more trade and tourism in what is already a big business relationship — but one they say could be much bigger. They're talking binational everything: companies with headquarters in Phoenix and factories in Mexico, wine tours that visit both sides of the border, even the first Super Bowl with Mexican sponsorship when Phoenix hosts the mega-sports event next year.

"We're just like you are," said Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin, who voted for Arizona's controversial law. He was speaking to a binational cocktail party in Mexico City this week, saying Mexicans and Arizonans want the same future for their children: "We'll be here a lot more frequently, and we're here to continue to make friends."

"Friends" was the furthest term from mind in 2010, when the Arizona legislature made it a state crime to fail to get or carry immigration registration papers — a provision that was later thrown out by the U.S. Supreme Court. Justices upheld the law's provision that police, while investigating other crimes, are required to question people's immigration status if they're believed to be in the country illegally.
Then, it stops being shocking and just logical. Either the money from political donations stopped coming in for Republicans or they started flowing with the condition that they change their tune on Mexicans. 30% of Arizona is Hispanic. 45% of all newborns are Hispanic. That's a lot of new Americans being born that may not take kindly to people harassing their Mexican kin.
I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. - MLK

Most people living in Arizona are not against legal immigration. What is expected is for the Federal Govt to enforce US laws.

"The law requires non-citizens who are 18 or older and who have been issued valid U.S. immigration documents to carry those documents
with them at all times." https://www.aclu.org/files/kyr/kyr_english_4.pdf

Funny how this is ignored. Seems people objected to a State wanting to assist the Feds in enforcing federal law.

Border States should build good business and trade with Mexico. That does not mean we should ignore immigration laws.

This is not new.... not partisan politics... Napolitano, while Dem. Gov., represented Az. at a U.S/Canada trade meeting and her major selling point for Az. was the proximity to and relationship with Mexico.

    So is this.

Yesterday I was going up and down on my radio dial and came across a promotional commercial on that JACK-FM radio station. You know that radio station that has no real live DJ's and "play the music they want."

Until the end of March, every day JACK is giving away a free three day trip to Laredo, Mexico. The only Laredo, Mexico I know of is Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Have you ever been to Nuevo Laredo ?

Nuevo Laredo as a tourist destination !

Mexico is up to something and it don't smell like refried beans.

The only Americans who go to Nuevo Laredo are teenage boys who go to "Boys Town" in Nuevo Laredo to lose their virginity.

On the whole we have a great relationship with Mexico down here. The SB1070 stuff was WAY more a media sensation than it was anything on the ground out here.

My 2 favorite parts of the SB-1070 fiasco was California getting all up in arms over it when they have the same law on their books, and that jack hole deputy AG (name escapes me) who railed on it on his soap box and when asked if he read it he admitted he hadn't.

Please explain how one has to do with the other.
