Time for FBI, NTSB to take reins of Malaysia probe, Rep. Peter King says

Time for FBI, NTSB to take reins of Malaysia probe, Rep. Peter King says

Rep. Peter King expressed frustration Sunday about the investigation into the disappearance of a commercial Malaysian airliner, suggesting the Malaysia government is not cooperating and that U.S. authorities must get more involved in what appears to be an international crime...

Much of the frustration is being directed toward Malaysian officials, who waited nine days after Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared March 8 over the Indian Ocean to search the pilot and co-pilots’ home -- especially as it became clear the plane’s disappearance wasn’t the result of mechanical problems. King said the pilots should have been the focus from the start.
King told ABC’s “This Week” that more intelligence agencies need to be hands-on in the probe. He wants the NTSB, the FBI, the Federal Aviation Administration and the international police agency Interpol to be more involved in the investigation, which includes a search over 5 million square miles for the craft and its “black boxes,” which hold key data to help solve the mystery.
Officials say they have less than three weeks left to recover the boxes.
King also said that more investigation must be done regarding a possible terrorist connection to the flight's disappearance. He said that just because there is no record of chatter, it does not mean authorities should dismiss the possibility. Reports that two Iranians boarded the flight with stolen passports were written off too quickly, added King, who said that there are still many unanswered questions regarding the two passengers.

What would be our jurisdiction? I get we are free to help in international territories / water but sovereign nations would need to grant us permission. I doubt China will nor would we need to search there. The plane is gone, the people are gone, and everyone RIP. It's another sad story. Rules may change to prevent transponders from being turned off ... Which I can see as a good thing out of this tragedy.

PS...king was just in need of his daily headline.

Quite a bit of arrogance on the part of Mr. King, if you ask me. There's a big difference between being open to offering all the great assistance these US agencies can provide and a suggestion that the US should take control of the situation. If you want to see cooperation and open dialogue disappear, just demand that you be made the boss and see what happens.

Do these supposedly indestructible black boxes not have basic gps tracking technology installed in them?

Why the f*** are we housing them in platinum containers and not spending the extra $50 to find them when they go missing?

John, you left one part out.

That would be demanding to be the boss while inferring that the other countries are inferior.

No. Why would the flight date recorder need gps? it doesnt need to know where it is?

You are right about jurisdiction, but also what is the need for the NTSB in a situation where there is no accident scene? How can they investigate an accident if there is no crash site, no wreckage, nothing at all.

The FBI also has little or no standing in this issue. If anyone can be asked it could be Interpol or something like that.

And with the King headline addiction, I think you are spot on there too.
