Beer makers drop out of St. Patrick's Parades that Ban Openly Gay Marchers.....

We're at a point where a gay could rob a bank and his defense would be that he/she is gay and that would be enough to let the person walk.... Hell look at the New Black Panthers walking away from threatening voters with baseball bats back in 2008 - they walked...

The double standards in society are doing nothing more than promoting obnoxious and sometimes violent behavior by minority groups - gays included. Of course anyone who questions their actions is deemed a "homophobe" "racist" or misogynist..... In their sick twisted minds if you judge them and their actions you automatically hate them or "feel superior (as the definition of racism implies)"

Being different doesn't give minorities the right to crash parties or parades for political reasons.

Gays have their own pride parade, so how would they feel if a bunch of evangelists crashed their parade - I suppose they would be asked to leave if they intended to promote religious and political messages. however this is exactly what the gays are trying to do to the St. Patty's day parade.

IMO, if these clowns show up spewing political nonsense and attempting to take over the parade they will be escorted away swiftly, and if they get obnoxious enough they will likely get their asses kicked.

There is an old saying; "get in where you fit in" - gay activists and their politics don't "fit in" at an Irish parade....

Also, it's funny how they chose the Irish parade.... Why not a New Black Panther parade or a Muslim parade or protest..... Oh that's right because those groups will use extreme violence to keep you away from their celebrations....

So were the gays pushing a POLITICAL agenda by marching? Got ANY proof of that?

As far as knowing where you fit in... how much you wanna bet a nickle there are gay Irish folks in this country- and few over in the Mother Country?

All kinds of non Irish folks march in these parades, you seem intent on painting all gays as militants.

It would be like me saying all folks from Chicago are like you.

I was thinking the same thing, does anyone even drink Sam Adams and Heineken any more? Last time I saw a someone order a Heineken I think it was sitting on a table next to a Barttles & James wine cooler back in 1983.

Businesses don't make moves like this due to moral reasons. They do it as as calculated move to target a different audience. This was a desperate move by two beer companies who have lost a ton of market share. Sam Adams is basically going out of business.

My guess is that this recent trend of having corporations voice their support or contempt for political issues will fade rather quickly.

They're not banned from marching, they're banned from carrying a sign like every other group. From the source:

Seems all it took.....was a Facebook Page of Bars saying they would no longer Serve Sam Adams beer if they didn't pull their support for this St Patty's Day Parade. What are your thoughts upon the matter? Right thing to do or not?

I'd say it is up to each beer manufacture. Their choice. I'm not sure if I was head of any commercial firm if I would want to get that firm involved in politics. It could only hurt sales from one or the other group. But I think the loss of any sales or a few bars would really hurt either of these beer manufactures. It could lead to a boom in sales from the opposite group like the gay boycott of Chik Filet, they sold more chicken than ever once those who supported gay rights decided to boycott them. The gay boycott was good business to them and now that controversy is in the past.

I say each should abide by their own conscious, nothing more, nothing less.

Crimea, Ukraine, a missing jet, Putin aggression, economic turmoil, high unemployment, North Korea lobbing rockets in the ocean.....

And half the U.S. is far more concerned if Steve and Bruce and march in a parade.

It's a public street so I guess there isn't much they can do, they just can't have their sign in the official parade. They can get their own permit and march separately at the same time, I guess.
 
I applaud the beer makers for pulling out of the parade for cultural sensitivity reasons, but am I the only one who is noticing the irony of the fact that these manufacturers profit greatly by promoting a negative cultural stereotype by sponsoring this particular parade to begin with?

To me, this is a double bonus situation. On one hand, companies are saying it's not alright to act like bigotted dickheads and on the other hand, we can actually have a St. Paddy's day parade that isn't perpetrating the stereotype that my people are drunken buffoons.

Mornin Pero. :2wave: I went with keep the Politics out of it. Any of the Activists out there. Plenty of other Parades they have.....and if not I am sure they can come up with one for any issue. My take on it.

I agree, politics should stay out of parades like the St. Pat's or any other parade that celebrates something like Veterans Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving etc. But someone, somewhere will always try to force politics into any mix. I sort of view this like a program on TV I do not like, I do not try to get it cancelled, I switch the channels or turn off the set and spend sometime with the family. With parades, if you do not like something dealing with the parade, don't go watch it. Spend some family time or have a BBQ out back on the patio. But this is me.

This will likely be the last year its an issue. I'd wager all the cities start denying the parade permits if they're not all inclusive. Another one of those issues where a compromise is definitely out there but both sides are just too dug in.

I think St. Patrick's Day was politicized when the first Protestant/Orange group decided to participate in a Catholic celebration.
