Beer makers drop out of St. Patrick's Parades that Ban Openly Gay Marchers.....

Because nobody else does.

If others are being allowed to carry a banner identifying who they are and where they're from, this group should be able to identify themselves as gay vets. That's not special.

Why are they 'special?'

Because while they were serving in the military, they were the only ones who weren't allowed to discuss their love life without being forcibly removed from the service, despite the fact that their risks were no less dear nor their blood any less red.

Why are we celebrating gay people being deprived of good beer?

Because im curious
I can COMPLETE understand banners that say "vote this" or "vote that" or Equal Gay RIghts for americans etc etc as those are political messages and could be considered activists

but

what if the banner they wanted simply said "Gay Veterans Group of Massachusetts" would this be an issues for people and if so why?

First of all based on last year's parade photos I posted, and secondly because that's what they always do. <duh>

You said "I suppose this was last year's parade." Was that in fact a group of gay vets participating in either the New York or Boston St. Patrick's Day parade, or are you just making **** up?

Heya SMW.

Did they have activists down in the Dallas Parades with signs?

Myself, I would expect to see a lot of Fire and Police Personnel in the Parades.....at least its that way around here. Be interesting to see like a video of Footage of the Parades in all different parts of the country. As well as to note who is about the Political activism with such events.

Course with the Italians and Sicilians. St Josephs Day is round.....but I didn't hear all this hoopla over that day either.

Hiya MMC! As I understand it, Dallas' parade got a rep for not being family friendly in the past and most of that was due to raunchy displays by some in the gay community. Not activists, partiers. Theres been an effort to clean it up and I noticed this year it was advertised as family friendly, so it must be working.

For about the 10th yr in a row, I didn't go. ;)

Why is it a problem to advertise their sexual preference?
It wholly inappropriate in civil society to broadcast or advertise sexual matters in public. Always has been and well it should be. Our society has become coarsened and offensive. Sexual matters are a private issue and should be kept private. That being said, I favor gays having civil union so they can legally protect personal and estate matters. It's this pushing of abnormal behavior in public and the schools by gay militants that is unacceptable. If they want to force society to accept sexualization in public venues and events, they're gonna have a fight on their hands from millions of people like me. I don't want to see that foul behavior in public and I don't want my kids seeing that stuff in public. And above all else, I don't want it being pushed in the schools. They need history, math, science, penmanship, economics, govt..... not homosexual propaganda.

so do you want to stop any displays of affection in public and enforce dress codes also?

What abnormal behavior is being pushed by schools?

how is society being forced to accept anything?

what is homosexual propaganda?

It has been well said, who is to protect freedom from freedom.

Oh, hi there, Vladimir. How about that Crimea situation? Any news on that front?

Two major beer manufacturers on Friday dropped sponsorship of St. Patrick's Day parades in New York City and Boston to protest bans on gays marching openly.

Sam Adams pulled out of Boston's parade, which takes place on Sunday, and Heineken yanked its support of the New York City parade, slated for Monday. Both parades are allowing gay groups to march but are banning signage about sexual orientation.

Gay rights activists praised Heineken's decision.

"Heineken sent the right message to LGBT youth, customers and employees who simply want to be part of the celebration," Sarah Kate Ellis, president of gay rights group GLAAD, said in a statement.

A Heineken representative told CNBC on Friday: "We believe in equality for all. We are no longer a sponsor of Monday's parade."

In February, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that he would not be marching in this year's parade in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Boston Mayor Martin Walsh has vowed not to attend the parade unless LGBT groups are allowed to march openly.....snip~

Seems all it took.....was a Facebook Page of Bars saying they would no longer Serve Sam Adams beer if they didn't pull their support for this St Patty's Day Parade. What are your thoughts upon the matter? Right thing to do or not?

An appropriate response and one I back 100%.

Course with the Italians and Sicilians. St Josephs Day is round.....but I didn't hear all this hoopla over that day either.

That's because St. Joseph's feast day is not amateur night for partying.

A parade being thrown by a veteran's group. If anybody has a right to participate it would be veterans, and I see no reason why identifying themselves as gay should cause anybody any problems.

Oh, come on. You see no reason not to identify themselves as gay for the St Patrick's Day parade? I can't see one legitimate reason why that would be done at a St. Patrick's day parade. It has nothing to do with celebrating St. Patrick's Day.

Actually not apples and oranges. It's actually why Gays aren't allowed to march with "signage" in the St. Patrick's day parade because the State can't force AoH or any other organizer to do so. Another fun fact.. that cases was specifically about the Boston St. Patrick's Day parade. ;)

AFAIK its not the state in this case that was denying them. So yeah...apples and oranges.

There were gay marchers at the parade here in Phoenix. And one hell of a good after event, even though it was about 85 degrees and sunny outside.

The question really is. Would Sam Adam's and Heineken pull their support if certain groups wanted to celebrate their heterosexuality? My guess is yes, this would also seem offensive to them as well. Well, guess what Sam Adam's. You lost a client.. I can practice my right to call you out on your hypocrisy just like you're exercising your right to voice your support for LGBT issues.

There, done, this is America. I have no issue with what Sam Adams did, nor I hope they have any issue with my decision to stop drinking their beer.

My guess is that this recent trend of having corporations voice their support or contempt for political issues will fade rather quickly.

Please define "abnormal behavior in public".

First, my understanding is that Lent isn't just about giving something up and that often it's about taking something on. Second, I am pretty sure that you are overgeneralizing about what "the Irish" do...here, Irish-Americans.

Thank you for your explanation, though.

Giving something up is taking on something.. like taking on being sober which requires giving up alcohol. Well, I may or may not but I've run into enough Irish/Irish-Americans where it's almost like a family tradition to give up alcohol during Lent.. including my family where the tradition started 7 generations ago. My wife's family (live in Boston) is the same way. So are her friends families, and my friend's families. Few years ago, the owner of a new local pub where I lived in Columbus didn't see half of his regulars during lent except on St. Patrick's Day. It was his first year open and saw me the Monday after Easter and asked where I was.. told him it was Lent. By the end of the night every one of his regulars were in that Monday night and they all said the same thing.. It was Lent. So he now closes down the pub for the 39 days we observe Lent so he doesn't lose money. :lamo

Sam Adams is guilty of hypocrisy because of how you think they'd respond to your completely asinine hypothetical?

Celebrations you see on the street are after the real stuff is done. Mass, feasting, and such. Then it's the "forgiven" indulgence you see. That's not the Irish side of St. Paddy's day you see though. That's the main stream hijacked side which people use as an excuse to drink and be Irish for a day. You'll never catch me pinching a person or doing 'Irish car bombs' during St. Paddy's day. But you'll see me doing 'car bombs' on my Birthday. ;)

Ah yes, you see the point then, the Holiday is about as Irish as the feast of the 7 fishes is during Christmas... What was once is no longer, so few attend Mass for the Indulgence- never heard ANY Indulgence called 'forgiven'. It stands alone- but what ever... the point is the 'masses' not those attending the Masses are what drives the parades and who ever thinks they can arbitrate who gets a sign and who doesn't.... well they sorta missed the ball on this swing.

Now as for what 'real' Irish do... I have attended quite a few house parties thrown by The Irish on St. Paddy's day (yes I do slum it from time to time... ;) ) where folks wear green, love to pinch the cuties, the girls march in parades doing that rather odd Irish dancing thing, and drink car bombs as a contest. Even more of a stereotype is the host of one of them is an Irish Cop just outside of Philly!

So it is roughly 50 to 1 on the 'what the Irish do'... but I agree on car bombs to the point I NEVER do them. :peace

Anyone who gets their panties in a twist over car bombs needs to chill the **** out. They're awesome.

If you're in a bar that only has American crap and Sam Adams, it's still the best choice.

Canadian beer is better than American anyway.

No, you go to a proper bar. Bars these days tend to carry the local microbrews. If you're not going to drink American Craft Beer, then you might as well just have a PBR.

Seems all it took.....was a Facebook Page of Bars saying they would no longer Serve Sam Adams beer if they didn't pull their support for this St Patty's Day Parade. What are your thoughts upon the matter? Right thing to do or not?

I have no idea why the hell gays think they can hijack the St. Patricks day parade and morph it into a gay pride parade....

This is why I hate gays - not because they're gay but because they think they have the right to take whatever they want and do whatever they want to do in the name of gayness - and if anyone is opposed to their obnoxious behavior both progressive and gays will jump on the "you hate gays" bandwagon.

We're at a point where a gay could rob a bank and his defense would be that he/she is gay and that would be enough to let the person walk.... Hell look at the New Black Panthers walking away from threatening voters with baseball bats back in 2008 - they walked...

The double standards in society are doing nothing more than promoting obnoxious and sometimes violent behavior by minority groups - gays included. Of course anyone who questions their actions is deemed a "homophobe" "racist" or misogynist..... In their sick twisted minds if you judge them and their actions you automatically hate them or "feel superior (as the definition of racism implies)"

Being different doesn't give minorities the right to crash parties or parades for political reasons.

Gays have their own pride parade, so how would they feel if a bunch of evangelists crashed their parade - I suppose they would be asked to leave if they intended to promote religious and political messages. however this is exactly what the gays are trying to do to the St. Patty's day parade.

IMO, if these clowns show up spewing political nonsense and attempting to take over the parade they will be escorted away swiftly, and if they get obnoxious enough they will likely get their asses kicked.

There is an old saying; "get in where you fit in" - gay activists and their politics don't "fit in" at an Irish parade....

Also, it's funny how they chose the Irish parade.... Why not a New Black Panther parade or a Muslim parade or protest..... Oh that's right because those groups will use extreme violence to keep you away from their celebrations....
