Beer makers drop out of St. Patrick's Parades that Ban Openly Gay Marchers.....

Absolutely the right thing to do. I hope more sponsors get on board though there's only a couple days left to do so.

It's a St. Patrick's parade, not a gay pride parade.

I think the confusion comes over what's activism. If a marching band carries a sign saying they're a marching band from wherever, or another organization has signage indicating what organization they're from, why can't an LGBT group carry a sign saying that they're an LGBT group?

Mornin' Rocket. :2wave: Well shouldn't even the Media and their coverage be pointing this out? Shouldn't the Media jump into these groups **** and Right there humiliate their ass on National Camera. Asking them what don't they understand about this not being a political event. Shouldn't they be insulted as to their intelligence and not understanding the English Language. Be shown for attempting to create chaos rather than take their Political Activism somewhere else.

Yeah, I think some mentioned the High Schools and their Marching Bands.....one can see how mentioning their School would be political and how the LGBT community can say they just doing the same like the kids Schools. Perhaps the LGBT community can explain what competition they are involved with against the High Schools.

So only the Irish march? No signs denoting the various other groups who march? I reckon as long as the marchers are dressed somewhat 'conventionally' and not simulating same sex, well or any sex acts I guess- it ain't a 'gay pride' parade. ;)

Just out of curiosity, if a military unit wanted to march with full honors would you say the Military has plenty of other days, Armed Forces Day, 4th of July, etc- so it's a St. Patrick's parade and if they want to march they should be in civilian clothes with nothing to denote who they are and what they stand for?

Okay, you name a Canadian beer and I'll name a better American beer.

A pox on both your houses!

Dos 'Ekkis' or nuttin!!!!!!

About the only up or away 'furrien' beer I drink is that Stella stuff. A cop friend from Penn likes Moosehead but he played college ball and was hit in the head a LOT!!!!!

LGBT groups march in Ireland, so it's curious why they're disallowed in a Paddy's parade abroad.

Irish Catholics don't usually need an excuse to drink, and there's no exclusion to drinking alcohol during Lent. If there were, you wouldn't be able to have the communion wine (which by Canon Law does contain alcohol). The Church wouldn't be likely to lift a lenten restriction just for St. Patrick's feast day. There's a feast day of some Saint practically every day. The only restriction I ever remember being lifted for St. Patrick's is local Bishops giving a dispensation to eat Corned Beef if it fell on a Friday, and usually only in dioceses with a large population of ethnic Irish.

You are given dispensation for several things. Obviously the Friday issue when it comes to St. Patrick's day but also when fasting is required. But also consumption of alcohol outside of communion wine is frowned upon as it would be considered an indulgence. So on St. Patrick's day that is excused.

Hmmm I've attended quite a few St. Paddy's Day celebrations- religious they ain't! It seems far more an 'Irish' one and we all know the Irish....

I suppose a few still hold the Catholic Holiday opinion but from what I have seen back east it is just an excuse to turn crap green, pinch folks and do 'car bombs'.... :peace

Celebrations you see on the street are after the real stuff is done. Mass, feasting, and such. Then it's the "forgiven" indulgence you see. That's not the Irish side of St. Paddy's day you see though. That's the main stream hijacked side which people use as an excuse to drink and be Irish for a day. You'll never catch me pinching a person or doing 'Irish car bombs' during St. Paddy's day. But you'll see me doing 'car bombs' on my Birthday. ;)

Because the Government in Ireland pays for it. In the US, the parades are privately ran.

Because some Americans are still idiots when it comes to the subject of homosexuality, much less sexuality in general.

Or maybe some actually follow the Church's view of homosexuality and when the Church changes, they will change.

Btw, I have no problem if they want to march. I have a problem when they want to make a political statement which they want to do.

Heya Ben. :2wave: Well here in this event they are not being told they cannot march. They are told if they want to March. They can't make it political. No Signage pointing out their politics.

Pretty simple really.....its not like the LGBT people are very special and all else come after them. Maybe that's where their activists should start with. Either that or take off the headphones for a couple of minutes.

There's a difference between carrying a sign that says "Boston LGBT community" and one that says "Legalize Gay Marriage." If it was about the latter, no problem, ban it.

Almost every parade I've ever been to the marchers often had some kind of sign identifying who they are. Gay groups should be afforded the same courtesy.

Or maybe they should be held responsible for changing the Church, mmm?

Seen and not heard, right?

By the way, you still haven't told me what the organizers paid for the privilege of closing public streets and redirecting traffic.

Seemed political when it suited them.

THE government aimed a powerful diplomatic blitz at the IRA's American fundraisers as terrorism escalated 30 years ago.

Officials were ordered to pull out of the prestigious procession through the city because the organisers opted to appoint veteran hardline republican Michael Flannery as grand marshall for the celebrated event.

At the time, Flannery was the head of Noraid, which financed the Provisionals and was seen as crucial in their efforts to finance and keep open arms and ammunition supply routes.

On learning of the Grand Marshall's identity, the Irish authorities in New York declared: "A situation has been created which forces all Irish government representatives and agencies to break with our long record of participation in the St Patrick's Day parade.

"The organisers have selected as Grand Marshal a person who has an avowed personal involvement in sponsoring violence in Ireland and who heads an organisation which the United States courts have declared to be agents of the IRA."

I thought All these High School marching Bands are into Competitions and get to cross the country to be in some of these parades. When did the LGBT Community have the Right to screw up their portion of the Parade and decide they have the Right to Compete with Kids schools?

Really? How much was paid to the city to obtain the appropriate permits or authorizations to close streets and divert traffic?

Well let's see.. cities and parade organizers come to an agreement on cost. That means cost of police, closure of roads and diverting traffic.

You keep saying this but it isn't true. It's a public event. A non-profit is the organizer, I would bet. Not the church and not a private group, it is a public event with a public organizer, even though it may not be a government organizer, per se.

You're wasting your breath. He has no idea who paid how much for what.

Why? Because you want it? How about you change the Church? Or just wait for one more Pope.. if Saint Malachy is correct.. Rome will be burning.

Seen and not heard, right?

Nope. It's not the right place to be "heard". It's not a political march now is it.. There are plenty of other marches for them to be heard. Hell, they have a whole month to be heard too. It's called June.

I have, patience must not be a virtue of yours.

I don't have to change the Church. I left the Church for a variety of reasons. If you remain a member of the Church, or really any organization, you either accept its tenets or you work to change them. If you aren't working to change them, you have accepted them.

It's a march down a public street. So long as order is maintained, nobody should be allowed to decide what it is except for those who are participating.

You have not provided any information on who paid how much for what.
