Sorry; I forgot. And Monday the 17th is also a Friday.

No, to hold events you have to pay a fee to the city.

Really? How much was paid to the city to obtain the appropriate permits or authorizations to close streets and divert traffic?
I'm already gearing up for Finger Vote 2014.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

Kidding aside... it's still a Catholic Holiday.. if St. Patrick's Day wasn't a feast day.. Irish Catholics wouldn't drinking on that day per Lent rules. See the catch?

Irish Catholics don't usually need an excuse to drink, and there's no exclusion to drinking alcohol during Lent. If there were, you wouldn't be able to have the communion wine (which by Canon Law does contain alcohol). The Church wouldn't be likely to lift a lenten restriction just for St. Patrick's feast day. There's a feast day of some Saint practically every day. The only restriction I ever remember being lifted for St. Patrick's is local Bishops giving a dispensation to eat Corned Beef if it fell on a Friday, and usually only in dioceses with a large population of ethnic Irish.

Mornin' Vesper. If that is the case......and the rules have been the same for no other political activism. Then why don't the sponsors come out and say that repeatedly. So that Gays or no other groups can try and play on any issues or use their issues. Or create those issues. So that the MS Media has to report that non-stop. This way people like these 2 mayors that want to politicize their careers over the issue. Can be made to look like fools and or for being Dishonest and deceitful.

Also shouldn't this be pointed out to both of these mayors.....and asking them why would they support political activism in events that don't want politics involved. Since they wanted to politicize the event.....shouldn't they be asked if they understand the English language and what the definitions of those English words are. While making them look like fools in front of the cameras.

Why is it so difficult for the LGBT and GLENN to understand.....that Gays can march but they can't have signage over their Political issue. Was there ever any confusion over the English language that was used to cause the lack of comprehension by these groups? Where did their confusions come in?

I think the confusion comes over what's activism. If a marching band carries a sign saying they're a marching band from wherever, or another organization has signage indicating what organization they're from, why can't an LGBT group carry a sign saying that they're an LGBT group?

Hmmm I've attended quite a few St. Paddy's Day celebrations- religious they ain't! It seems far more an 'Irish' one and we all know the Irish....

I suppose a few still hold the Catholic Holiday opinion but from what I have seen back east it is just an excuse to turn crap green, pinch folks and do 'car bombs'....

American Craft beer is way better than that mass produced BS. Every state has a slew of their own microbreweries now, try those out instead. Sam Adams was awesome when we had nothing but Budweiser and Miller; but now we have local microbrews and a new dedication to craft brewing. It's time for the mass extinction of the dinosaurs and the rise of the future of beer.

During Lent you always give up something for 40 days. Irish historically give up alcohol and have for generations. We are given Papal Dispensation for this day.

You are not required to give up anything for Lent, and I knew very few people of any ethnicity who gave up alcohol.
