It may have started out as a religious thing, but it's expanded to be a cultural thing too. The Catholic church is miles away from having a corner on the holiday.
I'm already gearing up for Finger Vote 2014.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

Yes, I feel they are STUPID for caring about it. It's meaningless crap they've been bitching and moaning about for the last 22 years. in the grand scheme of things, it's stupid. They could be fighting for Federal gay marriage instead of picking fights with Catholic organizers out of spite.

Heineken yeah, but Sam Adams is awesome!

And Sam Adams do make real beer, they don't use any rice or corn.

I'd hardly call St. Patrick's Day a catholic holiday. Not in the last 50 years at least. It's more of a drinking holiday.

Yes, it is culture related but culture related movement came due to WASP mentality in the US... so Irish Nationalism came apart of St. Patrick's Day. Catholic Church has always been miles away from the holiday. They treat the holiday as an Irish thing and let the Irish "have fun". That's always been the Church's policy.

This isn't about restricting people because of sexual orientation. It is about restricting activism. Gays can be part of the parade, their activist banners for LGBT or GLENN can not. The same rules in the past toward pro-life and pro-choice groups have been upheld. Everyone is welcome as long as you are willing to go along with the rules.

Because of the bastardization of it by WASP?

Kidding aside... it's still a Catholic Holiday.. if St. Patrick's Day wasn't a feast day.. Irish Catholics wouldn't drinking on that day per Lent rules. See the catch?
