I agree, politics should stay out of parades like the St. Pat's or any other parade that celebrates something like Veterans Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving etc. But someone, somewhere will always try to force politics into any mix. I sort of view this like a program on TV I do not like, I do not try to get it cancelled, I switch the channels or turn off the set and spend sometime with the family. With parades, if you do not like something dealing with the parade, don't go watch it. Spend some family time or have a BBQ out back on the patio. But this is me.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

This will likely be the last year its an issue. I'd wager all the cities start denying the parade permits if they're not all inclusive. Another one of those issues where a compromise is definitely out there but both sides are just too dug in.

I think St. Patrick's Day was politicized when the first Protestant/Orange group decided to participate in a Catholic celebration.

Snow in SW Virginia? We had some rain/snow Saturday, but it's gone now and there are no alerts for the next few days. It is cold, though, but sunny today. March...

Yeah, well but that was different.

Weird! I didnt see in the article who sponsored the parade? It read like the city of New York didnt, which I think is also weird. When I was a park ranger in Central Park, we ALL had to work that parade and so did tons of NYPD...OT and all...that is a huge expenditure that a private org or sponsor would need to pay for.

And of course, the city would not (and apparently did not) exclude gays.

Well I'm glad the beer makers pulled out...and disappointed in general. I'm more curious about who is sponsoring the parade? I guess if the Catholic Church is involved in a big way, they have deep pockets.

I, like many others, thought that StPdP was just a bunch of people marching in honor and fun of St Patrick's day...are learning the reality of this parade.

I think as more people figure out what this "parade" is all about, it will lose favor. If parade organizers keep the same track, StPdP will be just another old ritual old folk do.

Who here goes to a Columbus Day Parade?

Here is the marchers at MLK's day in my area.
