Folks, I think we're just going to have to get used to paying more for things. Workers need some help to assure their fair treatment. It's time we all realized that.

I was offered a managerial job ten-plus years ago. The offer letter came to me with a salary promise, description of benefits, and a caveat that I would be expected to work sixty hours a week. So, I'll ask again: Just exactly how fair is that?
Guess it depends on if it was worth it money wise. Least they told you up front.

My Wife works as a salaried employee but, she simply refuses to work longer hours. Instead, she outworks everyone else with no complaints.

Mr. Vicchio, I've been an entrepreneur my whole life. I didn't take that job, by the way.

What is government good for if not to even the playing field? Would you do away with the minimum wage? Go back to "We don't hire blacks"? "Women need not apply"? No overtime for anyone? Let employers give themselves perks while excluding their workers because they can? Depend on the largess of employers to see the light? It didn't work before, and it won't work now.

Go work at a factory in India and tell me how well it works when employers are left to their own devices. Is that really the kind of country you want to live in? Really??

Now surely there are degrees of interference. But making sure that companies don't skirt overtime requirements simply by putting someone on salary and telling them they're stupidvisors doesn't seem too much interference to me.

(FYI, you only get OT if you already have a job.)
If you take a salaried position, you take the flexibility it brings: work any amount of time during the week, get paid the same. "Executive" positions are almost exclusively salaried.

Just another in a long list of reasons for companies to outsource overseas.

So many Americans want to have this great life, but they don't want to do the work required to get it. And they're too stupid to recognize the con job Democrats continue to sell them.

You ask this question because you're viewing him through partisan crazy lenses.

This isnt evening anything. Its forcing businesses to increase costs for "social justice" not business needs. This makes all ready jittery businesses morre afraid. Business thrives when conditions are stable. This is another destabilizing diktate. You are drawn to the emotional arguememt of "fairness" and you dont give a damn if everyone has to pay more, you dont give a damn if opportunity is lost to others you see "fairness" and personal short term gain. That sort of short sighted, selfish emotionally driven thinking is why this country is 17 trillion in debt.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

My company saw this coming a year ago. People on my team used to be exempt analysts. But the company was so afraid of being sued by Obama/NLRB, that they changed any borderline exmpt positions to non-exempt. My whole team hates it, as we far preferred being exempted.

No, you're right. I don't care if it costs me a surcharge of 20-cents on my fast-food order so that employees can have health insurance. Or an extra 10%. I don't care of my loaf of bread costs 50-cents more. I don't care if it costs me another $3 to mow my lawn so the Mexicans who don't speak English and whose job prospects are limited and sweat their asses off to cut it can make $10 an hour instead of $7.25.

I guess that makes me a bad person.

Why would you prefer being exempt?
