Republican David Jolly beats Alex Sink in Florida special election

The race to replace the late Rep. Bill Young was considered a tossup, and was cast as a political bellwether, and a testing ground for each party's messaging strategy -- which revolves in part around the Affordable Care Act.
"As your congressman, I will always be accessible. I will serve humbly and with honor," Jolly told supporters at a victory rally. "While this campaign has seemed at times to be partisan, your next congressman is not partisan."
Jolly, a former aide to Young, had, along with Republican groups spent millions to hammer his Democratic opponent over ObamaCare.

Sink was identified by many as the better candidate, had lots of money, ran a better campaign. In this part of Florida both candidates had to be somewhat conservative of fiscal matters to even run in the district. Lauded by many including MSNBC's crew at Morning Joe (click here for the video) as a "belweather" election which will set the tone for Novembers mid-term elections, Jolly's win tonight should signal deep concerns for the DNC.

He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

I hope this a preview for this November.

Evening Cgrad, from what I have read several are saying if the Democrats couldn't win this one, they are sure hurting come November. Jolly had 48.5 percent of the vote to Sink's 46.7 percent. Libertarian Lucas Overby had 4.8 percent. Here again we had another libertarian thrown into the race (most likely by design) just like we did in Virginia a couple of months ago (Sarvis who happened to be a former bundler for Obama) that peeled away enough votes from the Republican candidate in a very close race. This district however is 37 percent Republican, 35 percent Democrat and 24 percent independent. Rand Paul made Robo calls targeting libertarians, asking them to support the Republican candidate Jolly over Overby who at one time was polling a good 6%. Paul Ryan was another who went down to campaign for Jolly. Sink got Bill Clinton himself but it wasn't enough.

1.8 percent win is hardly some kind of mandate.

There is only one main party; you're all wasting your time.

Not to rain on your parade but thats been a Republican seat for almost all of the last 60 years. The tea party right winger made it close. An establishment Republican would have won by 15-20 points.

Since GOP posters are all giddy on this thread, try not to think about who is running for governor this year from the GOP, and not just in Florida .

Let's not be fair ernst, since you didn't mention the last time DEMs held this seat.
Please continue your odor of overconfidence .
