    I chuckled too.

I think they will understand that unilateral independence is not internationally illegal but it is tough and takes a good amount of sharing information, reasoning, and convincing with the proposed position as to why it had to be done.

We had oppression since Ottoman Empire retreated and it occurred on our own ancient lands. We were autonomous ever since WW2 and were under Yugoslavia not Serbia. Serbia than made hegemony wars not only on us but everyone else in Yugoslavia such as: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and then us in Dardania. We endured rape, genocide, torture, and kidnapping civilians whom are still missing today.

Relationships still not good with Serbia whom could not care less of these happenings. I have the impression that given the opportunity Serbs would do all that all over again and without a second thought.

Russians on the other hand populated a foreign country of Ukraine and want to keep it by force. Yet they refer to us and now perhaps want to force similarities between the two countries. So yes, it is a matter to be chuckled.

Now I do not mean to sound too controlling, but please do not Black Friday rush in recognizing Crimea's independence. Take it easy people! One at a time! Wooaah!

Didn't take for someone to bring Bush into this.

Of course, it all comes back to Kosovo. Clinton nearly got us into World War III with Russia over that spot of land in the 90's and it seems the issue is pushing us in that direction anyway. Makes sense that Serbia would end up being the ultimate cause of yet another world war.

    From the OP article:

'Seventy-seven percent of people in Crimea and Sevastopol will vote to join Russia in the March 16 referendum, according to the poll conducted by Crimea Republican Institute of Political and Sociological Research.

Eighty-five percent of people in Sevastopol, a city with a special status located on the Crimean peninsula, believe that it should join Russia.

According to the poll, 97 percent of the population of Sevastopol and Crimea negatively view the situation in Ukraine regarding the Kiev coup-imposed government, while 84 percent say that Ukraine is experiencing a crisis.

A total of 83 percent of the population of Crimea disapprove of the coup-appointed government in Kiev, the poll found.'

I am not saying the poll is legit, but it is food for thought.

There was no Nazi government propped up in Ukraine (and certainly not a totalitarian one). The majority of the protestors are pro-EU democrats trying to escape Russia's sphere of influence. Besides, it's not exactly a new strategy on Putin's part to utilize trumped-up ethnic rivalries in order to undermine and bully former Soviet states.
