Not really, as Interpol has pointed out it is relatively normal. Countries control passports when entering a country, not when exiting. At best they check if the picture is the same as the face, and dont put the passports through any sort of scrutiny when leaving a country... that is the destination countries problem so to say.

One way tickets with cash is a major red flag, at least it is here in the States....Are we the ONLY ones looking out for terror suspects?

From today's edition of The Washington Post:

The media shouldn’t issue unconfirmed reports about the missing airliner, Malaysia’s civil aviation chief complained this week, as it only raised people’s hopes and hampered the investigation.

And then Azharuddin Abdul Rahman proceeded to issue the latest in a series of contradictory statements on the missing plane – statements from the Malaysians that have added to the confusion, infuriated passengers’ relatives and frustrated nearby governments.
Contradictory statements from Malaysia over missing airliner perplex, infuriate

IMO, the continuing stream of contradictory statements from Malaysia--ranging from the plane's having been tracked to the Malacca Strait to people having checked their luggage but failed to board--has not been helpful to the investigation. To the extent that searchers have changed their focus on account of these reports, the Malaysian information has undermined the search. Malaysia needs to refrain from engaging in speculation. Moreover, given Malaysia's conduct to date, once the plane is found, it would probably be better if international aviation authorities not Malaysia took the lead on the investigation that would follow.

The United States, Great Britain, and the UAE regularly check the Interpol database for stolen passports on departing flights. Two airlines have now been authorized to query the database.

My guess is that all countries will begin checking the database for stolen passports after this disaster.

Eastern 401 happened. It crashed in the Everglades killing over a hundred passengers and crew.

Parts of the downed Whisperliner were reused, included the Galley Ovens on new Lockheed L1011's.

Substantiated in this case is Airline personel including Flight personel and passengers.

But hey, maybe they put their heads together and planned out a series of reports that involved different aircraft over several years, so that some internet poster in 2014 could call their bluff and qualify it all as a "fairy tail".

They were seeking asylum in Germany, having escaped Iran.

The US is a paranoid, the UK does not... I enter Gibraltar regularly, a UK territory by just flashing my passport and I do not show it when I leave. And the same happened the last time I was in the UK. And who cares about the UAE.. they are probably just looking for more Israeli assassins.

Not if it has nothing to do with why the plane disappeared. I highly doubt that countries would want to add even more time wasting at airports, especially when they are already under pressure to ease the present draconian aspects of checks.

    Interesting.
Looks like they May have located crash site.
More consistently, it's just Southeast of last reported position and where there were some reports of sightings.
China has satellite data of course.
And they look at it often. They are in alot of maritime territorial disputes with neighbors.
CNN quotes Chinese as saying objects were about the right size for wreckage and cited dimensions in Meters.
    Images reportedly captured Sunday morning.
