Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin came out swinging after Thursday’s Security Council meeting, criticizing the mainstream media for ignoring a Voice of Russia report on a leaked private phone call between EU Representative Catherine Ashton and Estonia’s Foreign Minister Urmas Paet.

During that Feb. 26 call, Churkin says that the Estonian minister told Ashton the snipers who shot protesters and police in Kiev’s Maidan Square were hired by the Ukrainian opposition.

Under the headline: “Behind Ukraine snipers was not Yanukovych, but new coalition,” Voice of Russia reported what it said was the transcript of the conversation, which had clearly been intercepted by hackers or a foreign intelligence service bent on embarrassing the West and its NATO allies.

"There is now stronger and stronger understanding that behind the snipers, it was not Yanukovych, but it was somebody from the new coalition," Paet said during the conversation, according to a transcript provided by the Voice of Russia.

This could change how I look at this situation. This needs to be confirmed with proof though, because it appears to be hearsay right now.
 
It's had to tell with this kind of stuff. It's said truth is the first casualty of war. However, it's plausible.

Honestly though, we will likely never know for sure.

It will take some time I suspect to know what really happened. But I have read that the bullets have been analyzed.
Personally, I have no grudge against violence in getting rid of tyrany. And this guy was pretty bad. No worse than Putin. But bad.

If there's a leaked conversation between the two, we'll know. In time. One thing certain, it wouldn't be the first time such things have happened.

Obviously. Beware black flag claims from politicians in general, and especially when it is very unlikely that they have access to information required to make such an accusation.

Yeah, of course they wouldn't, it was just made up whole cloth, despite the fact they too would like to see Ukraine in the EU orbit.

Or, given that there are Russian troops in Crimea currently trying to annex the territory in order to "protect ethnic Russians" and given that Estonia has a large ethnic Russian population dating back to Soviet ethnic cleaning policies, Estonia is simply acting in its own best interests knowing that the US isn't particularly interested in honoring its alliances.

Right, so all the more they would want to publicly call bull****, rather then just keep it in private conversation.

Nah, that doesn't interest me, with the possible exception of the greenie-driven hold-up on the proposed pipeline. I'm far more likely to spend my time wondering what China and Russia are cooking up as our next surprises, either singly or together! :afraid: ... :scared: "May you live in interesting times."

Are you trying to be a cynic? The BBC is unbiased and probably the only current 24 Newschannel that is trying to be objective.

The Doctor herself came forward stating that she was misunderstood.

Because, as a former soviet state with a large number of ethnic Russians, what you really want to due is piss off the Russians who are currently invading another one of their neighbors on trumped up claims of protecting ethnic Russians.

I mean, they MIGHT be inclined to call bull**** if they thought that the US would back them if Russia rolled tanks in to their border towns. But since everyone now just assumes that Ukraine will lose Crimea rather than risk conflict, and since the LAST state to piss off Russia (Chechnya) is now part of Russia, they have to start making different calculations.

Edit: Or, the alternative (should have read more) is that the story is simply bull**** propaganda being pushed by the Russians.
