Good, bad, or indifferent, which other country is first and most in the news globally looking for our reaction to most global issues, which country is first on the list when "freedom fighters" want financial and logistic support, which country is first on the list when a country needs humanitarian aid after a disaster???

This idea that we are reducing ourselves hopefully is true, because we could be reduced 10fold or more and still be more relevant than any other country. Stop with the trying to put shame on it. The real shame is the fact that our military spending is more than the next 13 countries combined. Then because we don't, what?, start a war over Crimea, some whiny citizens bemoan our weakness.

I have stated before I believe many in the USA, China, Russia and around the world want another arms race, plus to continue to divide up the resources and wealth of the world because us "super powers." Arms races are extremely profitable and countries and regions can be occupied by the diversion that it is to block another major power - thus us dividing up the world.

    Obama threatens to

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the time for warnings is over. The article says they are considering what steps to take. Why don't they already KNOW what steps to take? Why are no contingency plans for this in place already? If our intelligence didn't see this coming? Why not?

I blame our intelligence community. We spend billions of dollars to get a heads up on this type action. What happened?
It would not surprise me to find that the analysts had a hunch the EU treaty offer could go pretty much as it did. I would be surprised, if the analysis had not been communicated to the Europeans. But it was the Europeans' call and the US wouldn't want to interfere.
'Same thing happened with the European currency. The Europeans were told it wouldn't work the way they were doing it. They did it anyway.

The Russians and the Chinese never stopped wanting to rule the world. They would have pulled it off, if not for The United States.

    Divide and conquer, huh?
I don't get this - both Russia (especially Russia) and the U.S. have vast territories and they are greedy for more?

No I didn't but you're apparently unable to comprehend the difference between being reduced to irrelevancy and being able to reduce 10fold yet still being more relevant than any other country.

But for all your claim of patriotism, you really seem to enjoy bashing your own country. I on the other hand, have no patriotism whatsoever, and can still see the falsehood of an claim that we are now or anytime in the near future going to become irrelevant. You are to the point now that if the country isn't a wasteland before Obama leaves office, you're going to be disappointed. I couldn't imagine having my personal hatred of one man, or even one party, being so great that I would wallow in the hopes of a failed country quite the way you folks do.

The same IC that got it wrong in Iraq, the same IC that gets everything wrong. In my business, I fire people like that.

US intelligence has been heavily focused on stopping "terrorism" ( and tasks resources mostly towards such) - now we're being reminded of the global military superpowers.

In a global poll, the US is seen as the biggest threat to world peace, so this may be seen as a good development.
