Obama warns US will 'isolate' Russia if Putin doesn't pull back in Ukraine

We don't test missiles during a crisis and its worth pointing our that Nato and the US cancelled their decade long Black sea exercises because it irritated Russia, its called diplomacy something Russia seemed to have forgotten about.

Since Syria, Iran.

Maybe this is all BS and Putin just needed a quick cash infusion. So he made a quick call to whatever hedge fund he's invested in and told them they should short the Ruble and any other Currnecy thats going to take a hit because of all of this nonsense.

Russia is allowed by treaty to have their port in Crimea until 2045.

The bankster/gangsters in Mother Russia reeled Putie back in.
Trying to make this a win-win for Pukie is so like you .

No to the second point, the so-called "bankster/gangsters" as you called them just made a huge amount of money from this swing. You need to learn how the stock markets work.

As to that last, wtf? The cutesy names are idiotic no matter who they're applied to and I have no love for Putin or Russia. I do however have mad respect for a masterful politician, just wish we had someone sitting in the Oval office with that sort of talent again. I'm tired of incompetents sitting in that chair.

You know, as much as I detest Bill Clinton as a man, he was very good at being POTUS, especially where it came to foreign relations.

That's strange. I don't FEEL mocked. LOL!

Ever seen a group of fellows mock someone too dim to know they're being mocked, in fact they think they're getting the attention they always craved. Sad really in a lot of ways.

Really? Have the ended the bloodshed in Syria?

They've been trying, but Western covert support for the opposition has perpetuated the bloodshed.

Only when I am mocking them Clownboy.

I have a way of calling someone an idiot, without coming right out and saying it, and have them thank me for it. LOL!

Don't be sad! Be thankful!

Have they **** been trying to stop it. They only got involved to show the US up, they struck a deal to get Assad to give up his chemical weapons which as of yet has yet to happen.

Why not **** Russia, got a thing for Putie?

Fair enough.

**** Russia too, as far as it goes.

Bottom line is we have no business having anything to do with the place.

The fact that we even have an "official" opinion on what is going on there is pathetic.

The knucklehead in the White House making empty threats and Idiot McCain running his suck about how we should be making more forceful empty threats.

Both sides of this "debate" are an embarrassment to America.

Our "official" position should be, "Ummm, so what?"

Militarily the place has no strategic value to us, at least none that some other more stable nation in the region can't fill.

Societally internal tensions are through the roof and have been for years if not longer.

Politically the place is a dysfunctional kleptocracy.

Economically, their number one exports are Live Leak videos of idiots dying in drunk driving accidents.

Let Russia have it, and then they can **** each other, or Putin can get involved and make it a three way.

This seems clear in my mind (accurate or not), Putin and Russia decided to take a risk, which could have paid off nicely, yet miscalculated the reaction and noted the possible damage it would inflict. Upon seeing the damage (economic and military) the regime backed away to prevent inevitable destruction...or decimation.

Russia now faces trading property for economic survival....and in my view, will bow before the threat of western isolation.

There's far more reasons then that for Russia to be involved. It wasn't to show the US up, it was to back the US up. Please don't forget that Russia was very pissed at the US/NATO for abusing res. 1973 and they vowed they weren't going to allow us to do the same in Syria. And if the West would stop supporting the AQ, MB, AL Nusra infested opposition forces, president Assad would rap this up and the bloodshed would end.

So yes, we criticize Obama, and Kerry, but not jut based on ideology.

It's based on what seems to be a foreign policy that's utterly lacking in coherency. Do I need to remind you Libs of the ' reset ' button, and Obama's claim in his State of the Union Address that "American diplomacy, backed by the threat of force, is why Syria's chemical weapons are being eliminated."

Really ?

His pledge of Military action in Syria just confirmed to every dictator that any future threats from Obama are going to be empty. Putin may not be there to bail him out of the next Middle East crisis.

His claim that the US has "halted the progress of the Iranian nuclear program."

Not true, The Iranians were lying to us before, and now they can continue to enrich uranium and continue to skirt International Law. The Arab Spring backfired, as stupid reporters headed off into the crowds fishing for " Thank You's'' from the Egyptian protesters.

This Ukraine issue just emphasizes how important it is to elect a competent leader who sincerely believes in the fundamental principles of the Country he's sworn to protect.

If this Ukrainian issue irons itself self out it won't be because of Obama's foreign policy prowess....but he may try to take credit for it.

I love this argument because it show how many on the Right completely ignore just how much of a mess our foreign policy had become in a post-GWB/post 9/11 world. But more than that, folks who spew such garbage as Fenton apparently is echoing directly from the Right-wing talking heads continue to purposely conflate ME policy with other world policies. Notice how he blends events from the ME with current events in the Ukraine knowing full well neither has anything to do with the other. Furthermore as has already been pointed out, not even GWB had a grasp on Russian foreign relations throughout his tenure because his eyes were firmly fixed on the terrorist and nowhere else. So, when your predecessor creates a mess in the ME in his attempt to "spread democracy" in the hopes it would fane out across the ME, only it becomes a disaster and all you're doing is picking up the pieces in one hand while trying to patch up relationship and build bridges where you can, how exactly can you cement a new, broader ME foreign policy when you've barely gotten out of one war torn nation, are trying to end a war in another, yet continue to use drone strikes to kill terrorist in at least two other parts of the world (Pakistan and African peninsula)? How exactly do you broker a new ME foreign policy when you're still marred in a big ME mess all over the place?

As I mentioned above, it's very interesting how many on the Right continue to blend ME policy with international relations as if America under Pres. Obama just doesn't have any allies at all. It really makes me laugh at just how hard they try to make it appear as if we've become so isolated and/or so disrespected around the world. The thing that gets me is this: If our so-called "enemies" really don't think Pres. Obama will take any military action against their moves toward aggression, why hasn't any of these nations who hate us so much taken a hostile step against us?

Really? I suppose when Russia withdraws with little to show for it, you will not credit the President. I'm pretty sure you will praise Putin for his "restraint" instead. You righties have nothing but praise for that KGB thug. He must be your kind of people.

Okay, when will they withdraw?

What do Hussein/Clinton have to do with the thread topic, as you have chided another ?

He following the same foreign policy path, just a different country and leader. Try to expand a bit beyond your narrow ideology and think about that post. Obama is in no position to dictate or control anything in the Ukraine.

Putin will not withdraw from the Crimea. It now belongs to Russia, and the world will realize and accept that. He will even appear magnanimous if he calls for peace and doesn't take over all of the Ukraine. The world will then heave a long sigh and be grateful to Vladimir Putin. It's a well known Communist strategy.

I wish we had a president who wasn't out matched by third world dictators.

Only time will tell just how well he has handled anything, we are not out of either situation and perhaps both situations through an act of Obama may turn out right. For you to say he has been outmatched is simply speaking too soon.

“The human race tends to remember the abuses to which it has been subjected rather than the endearments. What's left of kisses? Wounds, however, leave scars.”

In other words "all hail the great leader Putin". Is that your dream? Do you really see it as just a match between Obama and that 3rd world thug? Putin will pull out of Crimea like the coward he is. He will keep his naval bases, they are part of the treaty. The Ukraine is rid of a corrupt leader and will soon be part of the EU. Putin lost big time, this is nothing but a ploy to save face.

No, it is not my dream at all but I feel it's the reality of the situation. Unless Putin moves further into The Ukraine it will soon be forgotten and attention will be quickly drawn elsewhere. The Crimea is his because it's not worth fighting about. No country will go to war these days over a matter of principle, unless they are directly involved.

Putin may well be 'a thug' but he is a smart thug who wants to advance Russian interests and will do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals. There doesn't appear to be another world leader who can now match him. Thatcher or Reagan would certainly have not allowed Russia to advance this far, and the previous US president would have done better as well.

LOL Putin invaded Georgia in 2008 and Bush did nothing. You really need to control your partisanship, you sound like a blind fool. "Russian interests" just took a HUGE hit with the loss of his Corrupt stooge in the Ukraine and there is nothing he can do about it. How smart is that? The country will be a member of the EU before he knows it.
