How can liberals defend this? If you want to erect a massive government, that government has to be accountable to the people and the peoples representatives for its actions. The idea that a 'public servant' in one of the most powerful arms of government can refuse to cooperate with an investigation into possible governmental wrongdoing is unacceptable and should be unacceptable to those who put their faith in government most of all.

They defend it by denial.... it's a "made up" scandal. Then why plead the 5th? Because it's a witch hunt. Then why won't the IRS just turn over all the info and be done with it? Because it's a vast right wing conspiracy.... and on and on and on.

The time has come to find her in contempt and if possible, jail. Let her cool off there for as long as it takes to gain cooperation. I wish that would happen but I'm pretty sure it won't and the denial will continue while the truth suffers a horrible death at the hands of party politics.

I'm really not surprised.

I'll wager that she has some administration person standing behind her with a very sharp knife in her back, as I figure she's covering the link that leads back to the White House.

It's the only explanation that seems to make sense to me.

Cummings is a tool. Issa is a douche. The I.R.S. can blow me. Political Action groups as a 501c3 is a farce. They all should be targeted. This is all political. Just like a page out of the Chris Christie playbook. Same ****, different day.

actually, and this is admittedly rare, cummings made an excellent point, and asked a pertinent question, deserving of consideration by the committee: what would be the detriment of listening to lerner's attorney's proffer. after spending $14 million thus far and having nothing to show for it, why not learn what potentially beneficial information could be available by hearing the proffer

That's true. May find out something you didn't know or couldn't prove before.

So immunity or special prosecutor? Or both?

I don't think that this is going to end here. The committee wants to know something from testimony and isn't getting it, they are likely not going to stop here and keep going until they find out what they want to know.
 
I appears that Obama/Rahm/Axelrod/etc threatened this lady and her family's lives not to say one solitary word about any of this.

Cummings is just doing as he was told. Start the distraction train, change the subject, and wait for the uneducated lemmings to see a shiny object and stop caring.

Are you embarrassed that a government employee refuses to answer questions regarding the use of the IRS to target political opponents to affect an election?

We're witnessing the most overtly corrupt, wildly abusive, and character-flawed administration in U.S. history, and half of our populace doesn't give a crap.

A government employee paid by taxpayer dollars who's accused of misusing her position to threaten taxpayers? No, she shouldn't be allowed to invoke the fifth amendment. She's not a private citizen in that regard.

She should not have been allowed to publicly state her innocence of any wrong doing and get that on the record and then take the fifth.
