Putin has received permission from the Russian Parliament to mobilize the country's military in the Ukraine. Parliament has also requested that the Russian Ambassador be recalled from the United States in light of President Obama's remarks yesterday.

I guess we showed him. The President's timing on this one was all wrong.

Why are we getting involved in this?

Because you signed one of those pesky treaties.

I don't think we are. The POTUS is expected to comment, and position as needed to promote democracy....but this one seems to have learned the lessons of war.

No one ever truly wins.

Dayum.

[h=1]Revealed: The forgotten treaty which could drag the US and UK into WAR with Russia if Putin's troops intervene in Ukraine[/h]
The agreement sees signatories promise to protect Ukraine's borders

It was signed by Bill Clinton, John Major, Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kuchma in 1994

Ukrainian parliament has now reached out directly to all the countries who signed the treaty

Putin currently has 150,000 troops on Ukraine's borders and it is reported some have crossed into the country

President Obama says he is 'deeply concerned' by the news

The US and Britain have both made 'crisis calls' to President Putin to warn him to respect territorial boundaries

Oh man. This is a very hot situation with only one right answer and about a hundred wrong ones. I am sure the White House is a very tense place right now.

The news out of/about Ukraine have gotten too depressing for me to read.

I am quite tied up in the whole affair. For me, personally, seeing the Ukrainian people win in deposing their corrupt govt was more than just a "hip hip hooray" thing, it touches me on a more personal level as an eastern european. I can heavily, and do heavily relate to every word those protesters spoke when they wanted to end corruption and a govt for them, and a new start. That sentiment is heavily resounding in all former communist countries. heck, even in Poland, which is like, the best former communist country (I'm not counting the eastern germany because that doesn't exist as a separate entity anymore), is still cleansing itself of the filth leftover by communism.

And now it's all going to ****.

So basically russian armed forced will enter Crimea and they'll take it. Maybe they'll enter some of Ukraine's eastern territories. Do a bit of surprise-anschluss because why not.

You can't do anything. Nobody can. You can counter the russian invasion. Not the USA. Not the EU. Nobody. Why? Because it's Russia and you don't want this cold war 2.0 to become a really, really hot war.

So if the russians will want Crimea, they'll take Crimea. if they'll want to take Kharkiv Oblast, Luhasnka Oblast and/or Donestk Oblast... they'll tkae them all. They can take even Zaporishnya which is a very beautiful city and a lot of the East and SE regions which are Russian speaking predominantly...

It's over.

You know, for me, this is quite defeating, spiritually. It reminds me of why the Republic of Moldavia exists and why transnistria exists. If you don't know what those are, google them. It's crushing. Ofc, for me, its' crushing spiritually... for the ukrainians it will be crushing for real.

Indeed, the 2013 was a really hot year in terms of global relationships.
2014 seems to be so.

I believe no one from simple people want a WW3. Because WW3 is not going to be like the 2 previous ones.
This is not going to be an infantry battle.
If ever WW3 start, it will be a nuclear war far away from close troop combat.

its ok Russia doesn't believe in interfering internally with other nations look at Libya and Syria

oh yeh? How many Global wars have we had since it was created?

it does not work they way it is supposed to.
USA and Russia played many times with the veto, which lead them in many dirty works.

I'm going to call it now.

In the next 3 days, Russian troops will enter Khargiv and Donestsk Oblast right after the same stunt will be pulled there as it was in Crimea. In Crimea, unknown armed men ( now there is reasonable suspicion that they were Russian Special Forces, the Spetnats) have occupied regional buildings like the city hall and parliament, and then the separatists voiced and called for referendum of separation from Ukraine.

The same will happen in Khargiv and Donetsk Oblasts (they are Eastern-most regions of Ukraine. Oblast = administrative region) and maybe a few more.

By some account, about 30.000 russian troops are present in Crimea and Crimea only so far...

UN was a joke since it was created.

no its just not the planets ruling body

the nations in the un might be the joke

From Putins perspective he has everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose here. He is not going to let Ukraine slip through his grasp and he will use troops to stop it if he has to. And no one on the planet is going to lift a finger to stop him. Good thing we are downsizing our military, calling our troops home and turning our attention inward, good has conquered evil and the world is a safe and wonderful place.
