Obama Looks Beyond Karzai (NYT)

While Mr. Obama’s message was not a surprise — administration officials had concluded weeks ago that any agreement would probably come only after elections in April — the White House’s blunt description of his call with Mr. Karzai underscored the depth of the president’s frustration and the erosion of trust in the Afghan leader.
A senior administration official said Mr. Obama was sending a message to Mr. Karzai that there would be a cost to further delays, both in the rising chance that the United States might go down to zero troops and in the more limited size and scope of a residual force.

American and NATO commanders have drawn up plans to deploy a force this summer that is tailored to assume a training mission in 2015 but also small enough to withdraw,
if no deal for an enduring presence is reached.
The plan would give Mr. Obama and other political leaders maximum flexibility.

for all the big news of leaving, the news is we're not actually threating to leave...well we are...kinna/sorta.

Get out now. :peace Whenever we do leave, nothing will hold that gov't together for a very long, 3000 residuals are not going to do it either.

The American people don't trust Obama, so how can Karzai trust Obama?

You're taking Karzai side in this?
I don't care about karzai. My point is if the American people don't trust Obama, how do you expect a foreigner to trust Obama?

The Obama haters have no choice. They'll side with Russia, Karzai, and even go so far as to hate any of their own side that has a civil discourse with or about Obama.

The American people haven't trusted a president in any of the decades I've been alive. So perhaps our system isn't what you're looking for. Additionally a president isn't solely responsible for foreign affairs.

I'm not siding with no one, I stated in my previous post I don't care about Karzai.

relax, are you going through menopause?

We should not be playing games with Karzi. He's playing both sides at the same time. He deserves what he gets after we leave. Time to leave.

What does your ignorance have to do with my cycles? Nothing. However you do throw up a ridiculous strawman that I am in any way not relaxed. Your ignorance and your willingness to expose it and to wallow it says so much about you, and it's comical to say the least.

I agree, even if someone else gets in the position, all we are likely to expect is lip service while they try to figure out how to steal billions more in corruption and bribes from our tax dollars.
