What a system! Both groups are on the same side of the negotiating table.

This is why federal and public unions as a whole should be banned. this is just another classic conflict of interest. if anything there should be a 3rd party negotiator as demanded by other people wanting to organize.

I've stated this a million times, and now one million and one. Just like we citizens have a civic duty to be on juries, we should randomly elect 12 jurors to select the following:

1. All government contracts that must be bid on by at least 5 vendors, and the selection committee does the selecting.
2. Any contract negotiations for anything related to the government and employees.

Feel free to add your own, but you get the picture. I would also add that when a vendor does win a bid, they have to complete the job on the agreed amount. if they cannot, then they stop the job are paid a pro-rated amount minus the amount the government needs to pay another vendor to finish it. That previous vendor is then black-listed and cannot bid on any new opportunities until a minimum of 5 years have passed.

Common sense doesn't work in government, but I have pitched this idea to many people of all stripes and they all agree with me.

I think random people off the streets are stupendously unqualified to pick a contract to design a space ship.

As a federal employee I'm perfectly content with a 1% hike. Hell, I think that's ore than I've gotten for the past few years.

You DO know that the government pays MORE to contractors than they do to their employees for like services right? The difference is that with contractors, the business is on the hook for retirements and health care. Or more commonly...they just dont.

I don't agree there are some things that a panel of 12 people have no clue about picking someone that might not know what they are doing. i prefer people that know about airplanes to build the airplanes not some random 12 people off the street.

this on the other hand is different. public unions should not have negotiation rights over taxpayer dollars for raises or benefits. there is a conflict of interest as there is no one on the other side to counter. both people are on the same side of the table.

Really? Are they too stupid to look at a companies performance history, ability to complete the task. They, LIKE THE ONE'S currently involved in the selection process do not need to know how to build a spacecraft, only whether the performance metrics meet the requirements necessary, AND at what cost to the tax payer in ROI, or CBA. Dude, it's not rocket science. Pun intended. :)

These juries don't build them nor do they require any exclusive knowledge in order to select the right vendor. Do you think the pencil pushers that are currently in charge know how to build airplanes?

I don't get the joke.

Because Federal employees haven't had pay keep up with inflation for a while, so they need a second job.

Selling Lexus'. Lexuses? Lexii?

Ahhhhhh.

I was just highlighting the idea that 1% is some huge raise. However, I will say that federal employees (by and large) do make great salaries.

Neither have those junior enlisted members of the military, many of whom live below the poverty level already. Or the retirees, many of whom earn at or below the poverty level. I don't see these other federal employees risking their lives and putting up with half the **** the military does for less pay. And there is plenty of fraud, waste, abuse and pork in all these other agencies to cut also. So why target the military and not the rest. The only reason I see is those other employees union pays a lot of funding to the DNC.
