Re: [R.I.P.] Harrold Ramis dead at 69

RIP I havent seen any of his work, and out of respect I think I should... Any reccomendations?

Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack.

Re: [R.I.P.] Harrold Ramis dead at 69

and what is the subject at hand? A good man dying at a sad age. out of respect I said rest in piece and I asked for some good movies for me to watch that he was in. What the **** do I need to familiarize myself with? it's not like i'm asking how the basic US government works, they asked me a question and I replied with an answer that explains why I don't know his work.

Now can someone explain to me where the ignore button is for people like grant?

Stripes.

That was the firt rated R movie I ever saw.

Re: [R.I.P.] Harrold Ramis dead at 69

Animal House is my all-time favorite movie, and I count among my personal faves a whole bunch more films in which he had a hand: Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Vacation, Analyze This, Groundhog Day, Multiplicity, Armed and Dangerous, Stripes, Back to School, Meatballs. Hell, according to his IMDB page he even directed four episodes of The Office, including the beach episode.

RIP, Mr. Ramis. Thanks for the laughs.

Yeah, I kinda figured everyone would have had to have seen one of Ramis' movies simply by accident.

Moderator's Warning:
Okey doke people. Moderation has taken place and some folks will not be rejoining the thread.

Reminder, there are guidelines for posting in [RIP] tagged threads:

With the recognition that the passing of political leaders (and other figures) can be a tumultuous time stirring up a variety of feelings, from sorrow to elation, the Mod Team has strove to find a solution that will allow all facets of discussion concerning a persons death be done in a civil matter. New threads with a thread tag in the *Breaking News* section, the “R.I.P.” tag should be treated with the same general respect and etiquette one would show at a funeral. It is a thread for members to express their grief or condolences and to speak about the dead or the family of the dead in a respectful way, free of mud slinging. The same story that is used in a R.I.P thread may be used to create a standard thread about the matter as well (and vise versa). Conversation in this thread will run per the normal rules of Debate Politics. Personal attacks about individuals speaking ill of the dead, as per the standard rules, will not be allowed. As long as the discussion remains within the rules and on topic it is fair game.

RIP Mr. Ramis

I love Ghostbusters and Stripes (and really like some of the others he directed although I don't care for Animal House). The Ghostbuster movies and Stripes are some of those that get watched often in our house.

Its OK. You can imagine my shock and dismay when i hear 'kids' these days say they have never heard The Who, Pink Floyd, Jimi,...etc...

They are classics...Ramis will be missed.

Unlike other celebrities this one hits me.

I loved his work.

One day after serving 22 years in the Army I drove through part of Ft. Knox with some young troops. I pointed out some spots to them such as the place where they filmed the graduation scene in Stripes and some other scenes. I told them how back in 1985 I actually went to the Pom Pom room in Lousiville which was still open at the time.

They said " what's stripes ?"

After throwing them out of my truck I decided it was time to retire. Every man and most women of my age peer group saw the movie Stripes and even thought the Army is not like the movie it was actually part of many peoples motive to join up hoping to have that kind of fun. Of course after doing so you realize it was a just a movie but still a landmark movie for a generation of soldiers.

Ramis was great he will be missed.

I absolutely LOVED Groundhog Day.

Ghostbuster's is wonderful as well. I can't believe I haven't seen Caddyshack though.

In all honesty, because of the generation gap, it took a Long time before I saw Caddyshack. I even saw the sequel (I know, I know) before the original. I want to say the more mature content (boobies) prevented me from seeing it on basic Tv, but I could be wrong. I just recall a serious lack of Caddyshack on TV (aside from HBO or something) for a while. Maybe I am wrong.

My folks tried to shield me from R films for a while, and my peers weren't into most films from the 80s or 70s (some exceptions aside).

It's one of those things I had to come into myself or with my younger brother. I think together we saw a number of those films, but it was a gradual process.

The generation gap is a killer. I'm spending some serious time and sometimes dough on being exposed to Golden Age films, because no one in their right mind could stand black and white films when I was growing up. The pacing was different, the music muted, the shots were longer, and the lack of "flashbacks" made older films harder to get into. Now I'm cruising, but that generation gap effect is real!
