Sure, if you trust the media, here you go. . .

Once he assumed the presidency, Calderón realized that he could not rely on the federal police, the Agencia Federal de Investigación, to restore order or track down the cartel leaders. The A.F.I. was riddled with corruption. Over the years, the cartels had bribed not only regional comandantes but also top-level officials at the agency’s Mexico City headquarters. The state police were even more unreliable. Often on the payroll of the cartels in their respective regions, they not only failed to cooperate with the federal police but also regularly protected the cartels and their leaders.

The Los Caballeros Templarios drug cartel is paying 325 million pesos (nearly $25 million) in bribes annually to different officials in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, media reports said.

That's what I thought, you have no personal information about this.

I like this ironic line though "Sure, if you trust the media, here you go. . ."

You are spouting off here because you are trusting what the media says and not even the mexican media, where it happens, but the US media qho watch things from afar.

Mexican Media Infiltrated by Drug Cartels, Experts Say

    By Juan Ramon Peña

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Mexico’s media outlets have not been immune to the infiltration of drug cartels, which have reporters on their payrolls to control what gets published.

“We live under constant threats, like if a guy was pointing an AK-47 at you all the time,” Javier Valdez, a reporter with the investigative weekly Rio Doce, said.

So you post 2 links (1 being an opinion piece) and think that proves your allegations? I don't doubt that the cartels have infiltrated the government, police and media to an extent, but your claims are definitely exaggerated I think.

One of your own links says this:

In the last three years alone, using this strategy, the Mexican government has captured or killed over 40 major cartel leaders; key players who are not easily replaced. Several of the cartels have already been severely weakened or destroyed.
So obviously, some people are NOT on the cartels' payrolls.

Anyone cop who isn't on a cartel's payroll is working for another pol (or superior) who is. Only difference is that they'll stay poor and get less protection.

Mexico is no different than the US; just as multinational corporations, private equity firms, oil cos. and military contractors run the US govt., the cartels run the Mexican govt. The End.

Says you. Sorry but I don't consider you to be an expert on foreign affairs. REPUTABLE links please.

BTW, Mexico is different from the US. Much different in many ways.

You think I don't know what I am talking about? How funny is that. I am living it. You are looking at it from far away reading other peoples opinions about what is happening outside my front door.

Why don't you quietly go away and save yourself any further embarrassment.
