Labor is a small portion of the costs of producing food and delivering it to consumers. And the portion of labor that is minimum wage is only a portion of that small portion so raising the MW has only a small effect

Thanks, just wanted to make sure you realized who is really pulling those strings on our puppet government.

    What?

Labor and transportation are a HUGE factor in the cost of food - just like any other product.

What's so funny? transportation is a large cost in the price of goods.

Why you think 20lb flat screen LCD TV's are so cheap? well they don't weigh 70-100 pounds a piece and come in boxes (depending on the size of your TV) that are 6 inches by 36 inches... Hence, easier to transport - hence why the US has taken over the market in flat screen TV's..... But that is just an example, while I could use many.

    From the linked article:
It's is not her imagination. While the government says prices are up 6.4 percent since 2011, chicken is up 18.4 percent, ground beef is up 16.8 percent and bacon has skyrocketed up 22.8 percent...
Oh, but inflation is only 6.something%.

Phfft! The way the government calculates cost of living increases / inflation the numbers don't mean anything anymore. Essentially, they're lying to us... again.

The fact that you seem totally oblivious to the fact that I was responding to someone who asked why an increase in the minimum wage would not lead to a big increase in the cost of food to the consumer.

We were not talking about transportation at all. Try to understand what people are talking about before jumping in.

His point was that a MW increase would have little food price impact, not that transportation (or any other) costs are not also important.

Yes, we were talking about how food is becoming unaffordable for the poor and someone suggested that raising the minimum wage would help make food more affordable for the poor. No one suggested that making transportation more expensive would make easier for the poor to afford food.
