Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat[W:600]

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Ok fine....Here is an outline for AR, and guide book for Mayors....It states...

"Mayors in cities or towns with a Mayor/Council form of government are required to prepare, and submit a budget to the council for approval on or before Dec 1 of each year."

It also states within that the Mayor is responsible through the budget to set the salaries of the Executives, and Council.

http://www.celdf.org/downloads/Arkansas - Guidebook for Municipal Officials 07.pdf

Now, the obvious thing here is that each dept. within the municipality submit their budgets to the executive, and the executive submits it for approval through the council.

Are we on the same page so far?

Now, If you have a union negotiating the salaries of the people working within that framework, then they are also voters of the executive, and council, right? So, it is an unfair advantage because as the union becomes more powerful, they hold a voting block over the Mayor's, or council's heads, and therefore, it is a corrupt system.

Since when do public employees outnumber the voting public?

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

They used their money and power to instill fear with lies. There's nothing right about it.

I see. Free speech doesn't cut it when it's being used to advance views you don't like. Cool.

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Public unions are under attack too. The last bastion. As earlier stated, the elimination of labor unions by people who have a vested interest against labor rights. These are the same politicians and powerful influences that support race to the bottom policies. That's not smart for citizens of a country in any shape or form. Absolute power corrupts.

FDR and George Meany both opposed the establishment of public employee unions.

I never said they weren't free to lie. I just find it rather desperate and pathetic.

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Politicians should have no say in a company and its workers decision. They only got involved and did their darnest to scare the workers with lies for their own selfish reasons.

I never said they weren't free to lie. I just find it rather desperate and pathetic.

And I think they were the ones telling the truth. That's why we have free speech. That's also why I think we can safely put you down as an opponent of same.:peace

It wasn't the truth it was lies meant to spread fear:roll:

What I find to be "desperate and pathetic" is the pro-union reaction to this election. The UAW lost, fair and square, because they failed to make a case that unionization would benefit these particular workers.

Sure.

FDR for Federal government.

Your point? It didn't come up while he was Governor of New York, do you think he'd have supported public employee unions then? Dream on.

Exactly how was Bob Corker going to "spread fear" amongst VW workers? The company was in favor of the union, what was Corker going to do?

My point, SPIN.

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

My point, SPIN.

I don't understand your spin on this. FDR's position on public employee unions was unambiguous. (So was George Meany's.)

Corker lied to the workers telling them he was told that VW would not build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers approved the union.

That is your opinion and you're welcome to it. I disagree and believe they added welcome truth to the debate. That's why we have what J.S. Mill referred to as the marketplace of ideas.:peace

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Exactly how was Bob Corker going to "spread fear" amongst VW workers?
Corker told the auto workers they would not get the next line of autos if the Union was brought in.
As did a State Senator, who threatened to cut-off more bennies to VW if the Union came in.
Did that help ?

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

What were the benefits supposed to be? A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help fund the Democratic Party?

Right, it had nothing to do with the union, but rather funding Dems:roll:

My opinion that Corker lied? I don't think so.

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Corker lied to the workers telling them he was told that VW would not build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers approved the union.

And your claim is that he was not told that? I had no idea your knowledge of Corker's conversations was so comprehensive.:peace

He got caught in a lie.
