Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

The thing I found interesting was that while workers weren't interested in becoming a part of UAW, they were quite receptive to the concept of a works council. If you read the statements from the workers opposed to the deal, they mostly didn't want to pay union dues. Unfortunately the works council concept is banned by U.S. law unless represented by a union.

Still I hope the concept of having collaboration between labor and management rather than antagonism catches in the U.S. UAW even was willing to say nice things about VW management even in defeat, which hopefully reflects a more sensible trend.

An interesting outcome. It will be even more fascinating to watch as this goes on in the future, as it will. This was a very close vote. For those of us that were born and raised in volatile union strongholds, we can attest to all the shananigans that will be going on behind the scenes out of frustration by this defeat. For Volkswagon, they are no doubt already in a huddle in the board room planning their exit in the future.

It is okay for the KOCH brothers to dump tens of millions of secret monies, while GOP posters fret over Unions.

And it's okay for Duke Energy to dump tens of millions of pounds of coal-ash in NC waters.
McCrory is the next dirty GOP governor ready to get raked over the coals, literally.
The good people of the South are only a decade away from rising up against this GOP politburo to save their environment and way of living .

this sounds like a commercial for the DNC.

Nothing polical about it. The workers considered a service for a price and decided not to buy it. It is no different than a consumer in a store deciding whether or not to spend money on something.

Stupid law and designed solely to protect unions. Should be repealed ASAP. Think a work council concept is fine if agreed by all parties.

Obama and Democrats have to be furious. They gave GM billions to close US factories and replace them with Chinese factories since the Chinese are more than willing to finance Obama and Democrats. So not only did not get a union factory in the USA for political money, VW is building its factory here rather than in China as is the Democrats preference. If it's not a union shop company Obama and Democrats wants it shut down if in the USA. So they lost this particular battle against American capitalism anyway.

That it was this close shows how close the workers are to being freed from the GOP Gulags.

That a United States Senator had to intervene and lie his A$$ off about VW shows how desperate the GOP is.
VW corrected Corker several times and you didn't notice Sen. Alexander saying anything, since he is up for reelection.

That Grover Norquist had to be called in to buy up billboards replacing the word AUTO with OBAMA in UAW should remind DEMs just how low the
GOP will go to maintain their death grip once a right-to-work status is determined.

The GOP has now given the DEMs plenty of new material here.
It is now up to the DEMs to use it wisely and go-for-the-throat, as the GOP has just done .
LOL. Typical response. Call the workers stupid and blame them.

Ah, add threats of sabotage too! Another reason for workers to vote non-union.

So you're suggesting the auto workers in Tenn. are just a bunch of aholes who don't know any better and are easily duped.

Actually, their vote proved exactly the opposite.

It seems time and again the lies of the UAW and their hired thugs who have destroyed manufacturing in the United States are being exposed and the organizers are being shown the door.

Three chears for the workers who embraced the future.
