Mr. Karzai, on a visit to Turkey (money quote)

"If Afghan judiciary authorities decide to release prisoners, it’s of no concern to the U.S.,”

Of all the disputes with Afghan leaders, none has been as infuriating as the prisoner releases, especially to military commanders steeped in a tradition of force protection above all else.

“Detainees from this group of 65 are directly linked to attacks killing or wounding 32 U.S. or coalition personnel and 23 Afghan security personnel or civilians,” the American military said Thursday in a statement.

Sen. L. Graham: said in an interview on Thursday. “
No politician in America is going to get much blowback for just pulling out of Afghanistan

so leave, Obama adm is still chewing it's cud saying blandishments like "well we'll work this out' ( paraphrased) the only way to do so is to GET OUT. NOW

How long did it take the Soviets to figure out that fighting in Afganistan was a losing proposition?

There isn't even a benefit. 13 years and Russia's laughing their asses off.

Kazai would not pull this **** if GWB were still president.

Like the Soviets were doing the same thing.

Kazai would not pull this **** if GWB were still president.

Well thankfully he's not. And furthermore. Karzai is president of A-Stan, so he's the decider.

Kazai would not pull this **** if GWB were still president.

Or if McCain or Romney were President.
.
As the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Amos or is it Anus ? said the other day in reference to Afghanistan, it ain't going to get any better.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Karzai got assassinated and they had a fair election for a new anti Taliban President?

Mornin AT :2wave: Exactly.....don't say anything else to Karzai about signing any piece of paper. Just Pull up and leave. Then the Brits and the germans and the Some others have already stated they will end all aid and funding.

So be it.....Let Karzai live with it and prepare himself for whats to come. Once we are totally out. Do you think he will make it past 90days once we pull out?

I don't like that made up word "A-Stan." It sidetracks my thoughts to Stan Laurel. Yes the same Stanley as in Laurel and Hardy.

I'm sorry dude, its not made up but just an abbreviation.

What are you suggesting Juanita? Karzai is going, and there will be elections, its just a matter of whether or not Karzai gets his man in there.

Hey there MMC! Yeah, I mean I'm amazed if anybody has ever thought that US foreign policy can do anything to advance the well being of anyone in the ME. Why is anybody still clinging to a shred of hope. The blood and treasure that's been spent on that country in 30 years, for what. So that the poppy production can be back in full swing. So the Taliban can rule the day. Either there are hidden agendas that have benefited individuals or groups not readily visible, or two successive administrations have been completely incompetent.

If it was a fair election, how could you be sure that the Taliban wouldn't win? Ban them from standing and you just made it unfair.

Morning MMC
The Bilateral Security Agreement between US and Afghanistan has to be signed, and then the State of Forces Agreement with NATO.
Karzai leaves office in April -depending how quickly his successor is transferred power, the US could then still sign the BSA. ( I know you know this -background).

Karzai is trying to save his life. He knows we are leaving, and chances are the Taliban will take over -so he's trying to concessions to keep from being lynched when they do.

We are tied to tis bunch of miscreants. It's so we can drone Pakistan - forward bases in Afghanistan. Pakistan is in negotiations with their Taliban ( that prolly won't go anywhere).

All of which isn't our problem. I read about naval drones, and we could use them under the military; but the CIA drones are those land based. More "convenient" to use CIA drones.

It's all so ridiculous, such a house of cards. Obama doesn't want to be seen as "losing Afg." so the madness continues.

If I were karzai I would be looking at real estate on Lake Geneve.

Mornin' Monte :2wave: Rumour is now Obama will delay and wait until Karzai leaves office. Which mean those left there.....that are Our Troopers. Will be at extreme serious risk.

interesting, haven't thought about the elections -found this:

Will Afghanistan Survive The Aftermath Of Its 2014 Presidential Elections? Will A Former Warlord Or Pro-Western Technocrat Replace Karzai?

This year’s elections will see 11 candidates, ranging from Western-educated technocrats to former warlords with bloody histories.
Afghanistan’s economy is largely dependent on international assistance as well as the presence of coalition forces in the country, which generates demand for goods and services.

In 2010 to 2011 the civilian and security-related assistance was the equivalent to 98 percent of Afghanistan’s GDP, and with the transition Afghanistan will have to rely more on domestic revenue generation to meet its budgetary needs.
This year’s presidential election can provide a critical opportunity for a renewal of legitimacy, a boost in confidence and a start to correcting the ineffective and corrupt governance that characterizes Afghanistan,” Vanda Felbab-Brown, a senior fellow with the Center for 21st Century Security and Intelligence in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings, a non-partisan Washington think tank, said.
But Brown warned the election could trigger “extensive violence, a prolonged political crisis that paralyzes governance and the collapse of international support,” which could strengthen the Taliban
.

Yeah, I figure Karzai will make a break for Iran. Its his only chance.

Well.....Pakistan is a problem. Especially when the Saud thinks they can use them to get any nukes.

No they're not, they got their asses handed to them in a big way.

Looking a bit into the crystal ball here, but still.

US and Afghanistan can't come to a Status of Forces agreement, so all the US troops are out by end of year 2014.
Taliban and the newly elected Afghan president continue talks, as the Taliban slowly take over the entire government.
Once the Taliban have done away with the Democratically elected government (say a year or two at most).
The Taliban will re-institute their Sharia law, so music and movies will be banned, girls won't be allowed to go to school, rape, stoning, etc. will be the commonly handed out punishment by their local courts.
The Taliban invite Al Qaeda back in, as they did years before.
Give it about 10 years, we'll be back to where we started.
Chances are high, in my mind anyway, that coalition forces will have to re-invade that country by about then.

Too bad Obama and Karzai couldn't manage to get that Status of Forces agreement. Might have put this entire thing on a different path. This will be a failure on both of them.

right. so then we use the so called "counter terrorism" strategy -hit the AQ with airstrikes/drones. What we should have do from the beginning. we went counter insurgency (nation building) instead.

ya but I do not see the TAliban taking over Paki, like they prolly will in Afg. Paki has a legitimate military/ not afraid to run a coupe', if it happens.

Iran gets nukes/Saud gets nukes ( from Paki). "what difference does it make at this point?" ..lol (Hillary on Bengazi)
